Squirrel took this upcoming weekend off, and he said he could get me home by 3 if no one else can, looks like I got some servos to waterproof ASAP Cool

Monday or Tuesday - FreeRideFrosty - 11-15-2005

You're talking about the very wet saturday bash?? Good luck. I won't be there either if it stays wet. Like I said... not risking it with a brand new revo.

Monday or Tuesday - squirrel - 11-15-2005

it's all good boys no running tuesday but sat you bet your arses i'll be out there! rain or shine

Monday or Tuesday - FreeRideFrosty - 11-15-2005

You guys are tempting me for sat. We will see... I just have a bad feeling about it.

Monday or Tuesday - squirrel - 11-15-2005

relax take ten deep breaths, go to the fridge and get a can of man, and clean out the sand from you-know-where!!!! j/k

Monday or Tuesday - FreeRideFrosty - 11-15-2005

Is that code for trash the revo and figure out how to fund the recovery effort later?? Hehe...

Monday or Tuesday - squirrel - 11-15-2005

you are one smart cookie there dan!!!!!! come on why not? it's not like we have to be at pro-series races next week!!!!! plus it gives you an excuse to get better servos!

Monday or Tuesday - FreeRideFrosty - 11-15-2005

Honestly I would...

However:

Then I need to explain all of the nice new parts to the 'rents.
Why I have no money... to the 'rents,
I need to save for college... for my sake.

I would like to upgrade some parts because I want to and don't have to. If something breaks at a bash that is one thing. To go out knowing I will probably fry something is another.

And briefly what is so much better about a single servo conversion running a better servo??

Monday or Tuesday - squirrel - 11-15-2005

i'm guessing here but i would suspect less battery consumption? idk though

Monday or Tuesday - FreeRideFrosty - 11-15-2005

Hardly seems worth Dropping $100 on a good servo and redoing the whole steering setup... hmmm. Weight maybe?? I got it! Only one to seal. :-) Ok I'm done. :-(

Monday or Tuesday - squirrel - 11-15-2005

you know dan you don't have to reply to every one of my posts!!! i'm trying to stay ahead of you in post counts!!!! j/k so you in for sat?

Monday or Tuesday - FreeRideFrosty - 11-15-2005

Possibly... we will see when it comes around.

And I'm winning.

A GOOD ($119) servo will:

use less battery
eliminate weight
be stronger than two stockers
be faster than stock
have a cleaner/stronger single lingage

Monday or Tuesday - FreeRideFrosty - 11-15-2005

Gotcha. Thanks. And I will try my best to get waterproofed for this saturday...

Monday or Tuesday - squirrel - 11-15-2005

the only thing i'm gonna do is ballon the recviever. i want new servos but don't need to replace a $60 synth rx.

Monday or Tuesday - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 11-15-2005

You could just smear thick grease all around the servos at the case seams. That will keep water out unless you sink the buggy. Then you can wipe it off and degrease it later. Grease the output shaft where it exits the case to keep dirt and water out of there, too. Shoo goo the spot where the wires exit the servos.

Saw a neat trick about grease packing the outdrive cups to keep dirt from getting in there and causing wear. Grease pack and then a wrap of tape to keep the grease from flinging out or dirt getting in from the sides. Looked pretty logical to me.

Monday or Tuesday - Tex - 11-15-2005

don't burn yourselves out bashing too much. It will happen..... I've been there

Monday or Tuesday - Tex - 11-15-2005

That's a good idea dave until you collect 1lb worth of dirt on all the grease you packed all over the RC.

Monday or Tuesday - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 11-15-2005

At least he can clean it off later (see how I said "he can"). And the servos will still be alive.
Maybe the extra weight will slow him down a little?
I also saw a suggestion (MikeH?) about plastidip for the servo cases.

Monday or Tuesday - Tex - 11-15-2005

yeah the weight of the accumilated dirt won't be the problem, it's the clean up later that would suck

Monday or Tuesday - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 11-15-2005

I just threw it out as something he could do on short notice with simple materials he might have on hand. Clean up would be nasty. Since it's raining pretty good today they prolly won't make it out there unless they're really into mud bogging!

Monday or Tuesday - FreeRideFrosty - 11-15-2005

Yeah I didn't go. I will probably go on saturday though no matter what. I plan on getting some plasti dip and doing the servos today. I am going to use RTV gasket maker to make a gasket for all of the boxes (Run a line on the lip and close the top) and am goint to RTV all of the wire exits or entrances to any box or servo. I am going to then take dialectric grease and put a bit at the servo output where the horn attches. That should make it waterproof except for the air intake. I should be able to take a hose to the whole thing if all goes well. Or I will fry $200 in electronics. Whatever works.

Monday or Tuesday - squirrel - 11-15-2005

yeah definately down for saturday!!!!!! as long as i don't cook the motor or the rx i'll be fine!!!! i want new servos anyways!

Saw a tip about using a small o-ring, along with grease, on the servo output shaft to shield away water. Just don't make it too thick or it rubs between the arm and the case.
