My Dream Bike - FreeRideFrosty - 04-30-2006 Very poor frame quality, very poor parts quality... even if it is assembled correctly at first (wal mart bikes never are) it will not last. The brakes (yes they are disk... there is a huge difference between good disk brakes and bad ones. I would take cheap rim brakes over cheap disk brakes any day) are terrible, and the bike will just not last... looks are not everything. My Dream Bike - Michowski - 04-30-2006 im not looking for anything special. Just something to ride maybe once a week or so. It aint gonna get to much use. Ive had great luck with cheap 60 dollar k-mart bikes so I figured id step up my game and get a mongoose. All I hear is people raving (sp) about how great they are. Anything from little kids to adults in there 30's. Figured its worth a shot. My Dream Bike - FreeRideFrosty - 04-30-2006 Mongoose used to be a good brand. (Like schwinn) Then they were all bought out and their names were put on wal-mart quality bikes. If you do nothing but ride it on the street from your house to the white hen that is a couple of blocks away you might be ok... maybe. My Dream Bike - cemeb4dk - 04-30-2006 Dan if you want it buy it. I spent 5 grand 10 years ago on a mt, so not sure what it would cost in todays market.... My Dream Bike - FreeRideFrosty - 04-30-2006 I need to sell some things first. I will evaluate my money to spend vs. money saved as well as how many hours I am getting. That will make the decision... My Dream Bike - Tex - 05-01-2006 I have a Mongoose from walmart, I bought it 3 years ago and have riden it about 3 times, it's still holding up...lol Mich, Dan knows his bikes. To put it into prospective, would you buy a RC at Walmart? even if you only going to bash once a week? NO! it's a waste of money. If you want a Mongoose from walmart, come buy mine for $100. Huffy bought Schwinn and Mongoose about 4-5 years ago, they are not Schwinns and Mongooses anymore, they are huffy's. Dan keeps bringing up quality because he seriously rides these things the way they were meant to be riden. If he was to ride a Walmart bike "seriously" it would fold in half. I'm talking trail riding and big jumps. If you are merely riding the bike around the neighborhood or to work, you should be fine with a cheap bike. Like I said, mine is $100 and riden 3 times if you want a Mongoose from Walmart. Come and get it! My Dream Bike - Ponch - 05-01-2006 BUt yeah mich...If you want something that you're not going to beat up, and only ride once or twice a week, I'd think that'd work...But also, if you wanna drop a little more, go like squirrel said and get the haro or gt. Not sure about gt's that much (I had one a long time ago, I remember that it was kinda heavy but what bike isn't) But I know my haro now, will coast forever even after sitting in the garage all winter, I didn't touch it and I'm going down this hill, neck and neck with this kid on a wally world bike, and by the end of the hill, without peddeling, I was a good 30-40 ft ahead of him. I knew right then I had made a good choice on my bike. Now just to find a comfy seat...lol My Dream Bike - BottledBeast - 05-01-2006 dan i just wanna see this bike when/if u get it....its gotta look real good..... and walmart bikes suck..i would never buy one they break way to fast..exspelly on the trail they like to fold like tacos.. My Dream Bike - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 05-01-2006 When I "Dream", it has nothing to do with "bike". But that is a neat piece of design engineering, kinda like a Revo! My Dream Bike - squirrel - 05-01-2006 Are you saying that wal-mart bikes are like savages? lol. Revo I had a mutt GT back in the day. I loved that bike! It took a lot of abuse! The only thing I ever broke on it was the haro gooseneck because of a really rough flatland landing! The bike was GT frame/tires/bars, haro gooseneck/crank. All the parts for that bike were about $500. |
