Boiling off old tires - rocco79 - 11-29-2006 Name dropper Boiling off old tires - Eracer76 - 11-29-2006 Tex Wrote:boiling works ok, tires don't just pop off though.. I had the same problem with the oven way, it took forever to remove all the old glue. So I figured I'd try the acetone way, not knowing it would turn my Boa C's hard afterwards So I was going to buy new ones, but so far they seem to be working ok, even while being hard....After all, I did manage to win the A-main with them on Sunday Boiling off old tires - rocco79 - 11-29-2006 Jeeeeezzzzzzzzz how many times ya gonna say it! It did work but 4 tires took like an hour of boiling water. lol I started to get impatent and started to exacto once they got hot and that seemed to help the water soak into the bead some. Boiling off old tires - SLOW REVO - 12-02-2006 Why not just buy new rims, Is it realy worth all the time it takes Boiling off old tires - Ponch - 12-02-2006 SLOW REVO Wrote:Why not just buy new rims, Is it realy worth all the time it takes Becuase they're saving the tires.... Boiling off old tires - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 12-02-2006 yep, it's the tires. Boiling off old tires - SLOW REVO - 12-03-2006 Well i guess it might be worth the time then.alute: Boiling off old tires - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 12-06-2006 Well I doubt I could have accomplished this between heats at the track, but I tried the Xacto method. I trimmed away the side that was already the looser, back or front of the wheel. After I cut the one side free I was able to clean out the bead with the Dremel wire wheel, install the new foam and reglue the side I cut away. It took about an hour to cut and clean all four MT size wheels. With new foams in there, they are good as new, and ready to sit on bench because I never go to the track. Thanks Chris for the Xacto tip. No boiling no baking no mess no wife problems! It's all good! Boiling off old tires - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 12-09-2006 The reason I had to do this: These things were softer than a warm Krispy Kreme donut.
