Really liked the older late 60's early 70's grill better so I had one made. I can't have the same stuff as everyone else.

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - Mnster - 05-19-2007

Still been working on this rig, been doing like one piece per day.

Simple shackles

Perfect
[Image: DSC02119.jpg]

Leaf springs are just screwed into the plastic, if I have problems later I could glue some nuts in the housing.

As she sits.

My wicked tranny mount.

Need to find a small reduction unit didn't want the spur gear to be a mud mixer.

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - bubbaracing - 05-19-2007

What kinda tranny is that? Nice mount by the way!!!! Aren't those leafs those Diaz ones? How ya gonna drive the trans, ya need to mount your motor where the 1:1 engine would be and run some kinda shaft down to the trans! Looks awesome by the way man, makes me want to build one and stop on the tuber now!!!!

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - Mnster - 05-19-2007

Wheely king trans, The tranny is really a terrible one to use as it is so massive and has a poor reduction. The internals on that case have a less then 2:1 ratio. I plan to make a compact gearbox maybe out of a bunch of pinions or another transmission near the trucks original engine compartment to further reduce the drivetrain. The bench seat and interior hog a lot of space down the middle of the truck and I didn't want the 70t 32p spur sticking through the seat or be the lowest point on the truck.

Using the dias leafs currently, just lexan cnc springs basicly. Can't tell if I like them just yet as they are extremely soft an they wrap and flex a lot. But, at least they won't get worn and bent like the metal springs. Just once this truck is RTR the springs might sag a bit. I guess I could always put some shocks on it with internal springs from a clicker pen.

small update

These rear leafs are way too soft and not very ridgid. I might have to make traction bars.

Lookin really good there Ben! Big Grin Big Grin

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - Mnster - 05-28-2007

Made a whole lot of progress last night.

Mounted the stealth (Waiting on the bearings)

Made the driveshaft to the transfer case, It's overkill I know.

I also started work a bellcrank steering setup that looks like a steering box. I had to because of the transmission, the servo will be located further back on the chassis.

When I saw this drawer organizer at the hardware store I couldn't resist.

Instant truck bed.

Could also be used as a camper shell.

I shortened it up a little, then made wheel wells from a 3" PVC plumbing cap. I'll have to paint it later.

I want to get some kind of toolbox in the back to cover those goofy cab bars.

Battery will have to fit under the bed as I can't really find a place up front. The location shouldn't be too bad as the trans is so far forward. Fits quite well for not planing for it.

Seat still fits, But I think I will remake it anyway if just looks big and brite. I'll make it out of styrofoam to that way water won't effect it.

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - Evil3 - 05-28-2007

Did you lock the stealth tranny, or get a spool for it? I was wondering as if you didn't then your truck might not go anywhere.

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - Ponch - 05-28-2007

Wow! You're a creative genious!

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - Jeepguy - 05-28-2007

looking better and better!

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - hansarvin - 05-28-2007

wow your rig looks amazing (I think I saw a truck similar to that passing down the street today with a bumble bee exhaust lol)

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - Mnster - 05-28-2007

Evil3 Wrote:Did you lock the stealth tranny, or get a spool for it? I was wondering as if you didn't then your truck might not go anywhere.

Locked it by cutting notchs in the output drives and putting a stud through one of the diff gear holes. As you said wouldn't get very far otherwise.Big Grin

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - Jeepguy - 05-29-2007

It needs something but I can't put my finger on it..........

EXHAUST STACKS!!!

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - Mnster - 05-31-2007

I was thinking mad stacks too. But, I don't know I think they would be to easy to get picked off in a roll over.

I wanted the width of the axles reduced, I couldn't stand the way the body didn't really blend. The rpm wheels were just too wide, I wasn't really a huge fan of them to begin with.

So I took off the stock wheel. Man was it hard removing those stock chevron tires. I baked them at 350 for 10 minutes in the normal oven. Didn't work so I tried the toaster oven, caught one of the tires on fire.Big Grin You thought they smelled bad before. Ended up using a knife to cut the tires off, then used a circular saw dremel bit to clean the rubber off the important parts. Still need to clean the rubber from this rim, figures I take pics of the one I didn't clean.Rolleyes
[Image: DSC02265.jpg]

Then you chop it off at the ridge. I used the old, cut off disk in the drill press trick.

Then you put it under the rim and glue.

1/2" deeper rim
[Image: DSC02269.jpg]

I like the looks of these better to, not the average wheel everyone uses. Very scale looking to now that they are not so deep.

No outer bead, which is fine as glue can hold it in place. I could pick up some beadlock rings. But, to give it that beater look I'm thinking about giving these a coat of paint and the rust treatment just like the body. I want that cheap steel wheel look. What is your opinion?

Width before

Width after

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - Ponch - 05-31-2007

Make them match the body (condition wise)

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - BJoe - 05-31-2007

Looking good Mnster! Saw a well used real C10 in Iowa last weekend, made your truck look only slightly used!

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - Traxxas_Junkee - 05-31-2007

Looks great, but like Ponch said, they are too clean!

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - Racin' Ranger1 - 05-31-2007

give it some STACKS!

Chevy C-10 Wheely King project - bubbaracing - 06-01-2007

Leave em chrome, but make em a rusty chrome wheel just like a real steel chrome wheel rusts after the plating starts coming off!! Looks good Ben!Big Grin
