Steering Radius - UE-Maxx - 02-22-2006

When I went to LHR for the first time, I found out that I didn't have the steering radius that I want/need to make some of the turns at the track. I thought that by getting a UE Gen4 SS and a Hitec 645MG servo that would fix it.

I see people at LHR that can make a U-turn on the track without hitting the tubes.

It still seems that after I got those items that my steering radius is terrible. What is my problem?

do you have some toe out on the front?

Steering Radius - UE-Maxx - 02-22-2006

I had some on there before installing the new stuff, but in the pictures no.

Steering Radius - Michowski - 02-22-2006

Well that servo doesnt help but it should go lock to lock. Your epa's might not be set right or you need a longer servo horn with more throw to get full steering.

Steering Radius - RobH - 02-22-2006

Your EPA is too low.

I had the dual rates and travel adjust cranked up to 125 on my supermaxx .

Steering Radius - UE-Maxx - 02-22-2006

I don't think it is the EPA's because the actual saver part on the steering linkage engages and the servo will still continue to move.

Steering Radius - Michowski - 02-22-2006

you need to tighten the nut then and that will tighten the spring and should allow you to get a lot more steering.

Steering Radius - UE-Maxx - 02-22-2006

Which nut? This is the servo saver I have. http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/cgi-bin/store/13601.html

It comes with different springs that have different stiffness. I will PM the person I bought if off of and see what spring is on there.

Steering Radius - Michowski - 02-22-2006

you need to put a much stiffer spring on it if the servo saver is engaging from were your wheels are in the picture.

Steering Radius - UE-Maxx - 02-22-2006

I will see what the guy says.

Steering Radius - Traxxas_Junkee - 02-22-2006

if that doesnt work, also check for binding that might cause the saver to kick in.

Steering Radius - UE-Maxx - 02-23-2006

The previous owner got back to me and it is the stiffest spring on there.

What to do now?

Steering Radius - Traxxas_Junkee - 02-23-2006

check for binding somewhere with the CVD's

Steering Radius - destroy_my_revo_15 - 02-23-2006

did u put the epas all the way up try it and see what happens

Steering Radius - UE-Maxx - 02-23-2006

Traxxas_Junkee Wrote:check for binding somewhere with the CVD's

It has to be binding with the CVD's somewhere. I can't even turn them by hand farther than in the pick.

Anyone have any ideas what to look for?

destroy_my_revo_15 Wrote:did u put the epas all the way up try it and see what happens

They are about 5 away from max.

Steering Radius - destroy_my_revo_15 - 02-23-2006

i kno wat to look for.....ditch the maxx buy a revo!

Steering Radius - UE-Maxx - 02-23-2006

The only way I would do that is for a trade and if they can prove that they put as much money as I did into their truck. I don't want to sell it because I would lose so much. It can definately take a beating.

Steering Radius - Traxxas_Junkee - 02-23-2006

try to take the servo horn off and turn the wheels and see if they will turn all the way, if they do something might be to tight or something like that.

how about going full speed about into a tree?

Steering Radius - Michowski - 02-23-2006

well i would suggest completly taking all the steering equipment off. Put one thing on at a time and make sure it all moves easily on its own before installing another part. Eventually your gonna find something that doesnt work as it should and that will be your problem.

The wheels or or the cvd's?
They won't turn...or rotate...

Turn = side to side
Rotate = forward and backwards

CVD's should not bind at any (reasonable) angle

i didnt see this post earlier, take the front wheels off, and then turn the knuckles and you will be able to see where they are binding at.

Steering Radius - UE-Maxx - 02-23-2006

It took the wheels off and all of a sudden it just stops. I will try what you said Traxxas Junkee and then if that doesn't I will do what you said Michowski.

Steering Radius - Traxxas_Junkee - 02-23-2006

can you hear your servo like it under a load? if you can hear it humming a little bit you have a bind or something is too tight, if you cant hear anything your dead points or EPA's arent high enough, and just curious when you still had your stock radio and stuff did the steering work ok? If it dead then it is most likely something with your radio.

Steering Radius - UE-Maxx - 02-23-2006

I can't figure it out. I am ready to throw it out my window. Now I have another problem. When I turn and let go, the servo returns back to center, but the wheels don't. They turn a little bit back towards center, but not all the way.

It's not my EPA's because the servo saver kicks in before the servo even hits the EPA setting. I don't really remember how it worked because I never noticed how sharp it turned/needed to turn until I went to the track and my first time at the track was with my DX3.
