Noob here looking to buy a RC..need advice please ASAP!!!!! - Jessica - 11-16-2004 Okay here's the deal...Im looking to buy a RC car for a gift for my boyfriend. I know absolutely NOTHING about them and was hoping that your expertises here could help me out. Im looking for something around $150-$200 and something that can go like 20-30 mph. It HAS to be a nice car body frame thing...and definatlely not a 4 x 4 truck body part thing. If you people could give me links or suggest places to look at them. THanks a lot!! Btw... Im about an hour from chitown Noob here looking to buy a RC..need advice please ASAP!!!!! - Jessica - 11-16-2004 http://www.trendtimes.com/rccoz0618scc.html Okay, I found this link, and I think he would like this corvette in the yellow. Do any of you know if this is a good brand, like something that isn't gonna fall apart if it runs over a lil twig or something? Noob here looking to buy a RC..need advice please ASAP!!!!! - Jessica - 11-16-2004 Oh yeah...a few more ?'s...what's better? gas powered RC cars or battery powered RC cars? And if it's battery, how long does battery last? Noob here looking to buy a RC..need advice please ASAP!!!!! - thenewguy821 - 11-16-2004 Gas powered will run quite a bit more than what you are looking to spend, but in the same sense, will be MUCH faster. From the sound of it, it seems like youare interested in getting him an on-road car. For some decent ideas for electric on-road cars, Click HERE! Hope this sets you in the right direction. As for runtime, one battery pack will usually last between 6-10 minutes, depending on the batteries capacity. If you go with electric, get at least 2 battery packs, and a decent peak charger. this will keep him up and running. Noob here looking to buy a RC..need advice please ASAP!!!!! - Technical RC - 11-16-2004 My advice would be to visit your local hobby shop and tell them what you want and how much you want to spend. They should be able to set you up with something although your price range is going to really limit your options. You're also probably going to be able to get replacement parts for something you get from a hobby shop. You probably won't find replacement parts for the one you provided the link for. Once it breaks, you're out $100. Where are you located? We can suggest a hobby shop in your area. TRC Noob here looking to buy a RC..need advice please ASAP!!!!! - Jessica - 11-16-2004 Well, Im about an hour SW of Chicago area...Im out in Schaumberg and Chicago area(around Austin-Foster off of 90) about once a week or so. Im sure there are more stores out there since I live in the middle of a corn field, there arent any around here.. I can also head out to Aurora/Sugar Grove area as well. Anyone know of any shops around those places? Noob here looking to buy a RC..need advice please ASAP!!!!! - NitroNoob - 11-16-2004 If this is a new hobby for the boyfriend and you dont want to spend that much money, I would suggest an HPI Dash. They have several different body styles and are battery powered. You can find them online for around $100.00 or so. You can find them at the local hobby shop for about $120.00 to $140.00 depending on where you go. Plus the HPI Dash comes with everything you need to run it, i.e. battery, charger, controller, etc.. These are just a few of the models you can get, they also have a lambo, a nascar and a few others I believe. Noob here looking to buy a RC..need advice please ASAP!!!!! - SixVi6-Camaro - 11-16-2004 for on road electric cars around $200 there are good options. HPI Dash, Electric TC3, and Electric 4 tec. Also there are lots of very scale realistic RC cars from Tamiya that can be had for a couple hundred from Mustangs to mini coopers to open wheeled F1 cars. Plus the cars I listed are all upgradeable and can be fixed if they get broken or worn with parts available as most hobby shops. I'd give you links to specific Rc's online but Tower Hobbies web site is being annoying right now but out http://www.towerhobbies.com they have just about everything listed. Unfortunatly Schaumburg area has nothing.. there is a hobby shop in wheeling call Venture Hobbies that is good for Kits, Also a hobby shop in Elmhurst called Al's that is very popiular, Hobby town Usa in St Charles is good also. Al's and Venture hobbies would have the best prices. lets see.. http://www.alshobbyshop.com/ http://www.venturehobbies.com/ Noob here looking to buy a RC..need advice please ASAP!!!!! - NitroNoob - 11-16-2004 yea, Venture Hobbies is where I go now. I have a Hobbytown 5 minutes from my house, but I'd rather drive the 20 minutes to get to Venture Hobbies. Noob here looking to buy a RC..need advice please ASAP!!!!! - Tex - 11-16-2004 Six must have forgot about http://www.leisurehours.com which is about an hour SW of chitown. It's by Lewis/Joliet mall, actually directly next to K-Mart. It has tons of RTR's and Kits. Plus I'm sure it's the closest to where you live. . What town do you live in specifically? Minooka, Channahon, Braidwood, Morris? I'm sure Joliet would be the closest. Noob here looking to buy a RC..need advice please ASAP!!!!! - DO-U-MAXX - 11-17-2004 theres a hobby town in aurora, but unless you know exactly what your looking for..stay away. The main stores listed above would be a great place to start. Leisure and Al's would be my first picks for having ?'s answered correctly. Good luck with your decision Noob here looking to buy a RC..need advice please ASAP!!!!! - SixVi6-Camaro - 11-17-2004 duhh.. yeah I forgot about leisure. Its way out of the way for me so I tend to forget that hobby shop. |
