Official Car Audio Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 12-13-2006 Well it seems like it has potential. How about a thread dedicated to another great hobby. Setups, pictures.... anything Car Audio related. Official Car Audio Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 12-13-2006 Allright.... I figured I would slowly move over here. I currently have my 10" Adire Audio Brahma (I am not sure what generation, and I am not sure how to check) run to a 1200.1 MA Audio amp at 1 ohm. At high volumes I believe my sub may be clipping, not bottoming out. I have a feeling it may be the amp. How do I tell the difference between clipping and bottoming out, and what amp would you reccomend for this sub? Anyone have one for sale? Slim? Eric? Thanks Dan Official Car Audio Thread - Eracer76 - 12-13-2006 Sweet....I'll have to get some pics together tomorrow....Im too tired to do it now lol Official Car Audio Thread - slim - 12-13-2006 it wont bottom.... if it does it will scare you... very loud noise... clipping sounds like its not as clean... notes get a lil rough. Official Car Audio Thread - Eracer76 - 12-13-2006 right, bottoming out will sound BAD, you will know it if it ever happens Official Car Audio Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 12-13-2006 slim Wrote:it wont bottom.... Really? I may need to have you listen to it then... I will be home over the last two weeks of december, and the first two weeks of January. Will you be at the track anywhere in there?? I don't think it is bottoming out, but something isn't right. The MA Audio amp really isn't that high quality though either. What did you run to yours? And do you have anything laying around that might do the job better that I could purchase? Official Car Audio Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 12-13-2006 Eracer76 Wrote:right, bottoming out will sound BAD, you will know it if it ever happens It sounded like someone kind of flicked the plastic cone with their nail..... but repetative. I turned it down right at that. I didn't think it would bottom.... but I thought that might be the sound. However, when my JL's made a similar sound, we fed them more power and they sounded better. That is what has me confused. Official Car Audio Thread - slim - 12-13-2006 this was a 84, which is one of the highest scores to get, all with two 6.5 inch Adires and 2 tweets..... no sub. i never even ran a sub till finals. won every show in IL and state champ, even went to tennesee and killed the big team there with no sub.... Official Car Audio Thread - slim - 12-13-2006 what you describe sound like bottoming.... are you sure its the sub and not maybe the box some how... these new subs need bad ass thick boxes... Official Car Audio Thread - Eracer76 - 12-13-2006 Im not too sure on the MA audio products, I guess I never thought they were all that good. Back when I had my 00' Dakota, I was running a 10W7 and powering it with the JL 500/1.....sounded nice and had the power to move it real good. It hit 147db with just that one sub Official Car Audio Thread - slim - 12-13-2006 i had a punch 200 ran to a 12w7 and it was stupid... this black guy in town had 4 15;s in his caprice.... thought it was banging... i had hime lissen to that 12w7 and he jumped the hell outta my car when it hit..... he about fell over when i popped the trunk and showed him it was 1 12inch speaker.... Official Car Audio Thread - Eracer76 - 12-13-2006 That sheet brings back memories....I wonder if I still have my SQ sheets somewhere....hmmmm Official Car Audio Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 12-13-2006 The box seems solid. Pretty well reinforced 3/4" MDF. I wanted to do baltic birch but didn't have the cash at the time. It just doesn't seem as loud as I think it should be. I could be wrong though. That is why I wish I had someone who really KNOWS their stuff who could listen to it real quick. I don't remember the exact specs I built it too.... I used WinISD Pro. The box came out to something like 1.4 ft^3 internal volume after bracing. I think it is tuned at either 35 or 36 hertz. The real downside about my system is that I am running a factory head unit. (With the premium sound on VW you need to re-wire everything to go with an aftermarket HU. Kind of like Bose....) So... off of the factory amp i nthe rear I tapped into the rear speaker line outs and ran that to a line out converter, then the RCA's to the amp. I know it isn't the best, but I don't think that should have anything to do with the actual behavior of the sub. Am I wrong? Official Car Audio Thread - slim - 12-13-2006 yes you are wrong LOC is killing it Official Car Audio Thread - Eracer76 - 12-13-2006 Big time....your probably clipping the amp with that crappy signal Official Car Audio Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 12-13-2006 Damn. So I really have no option but to rewire the car? Any way to wire the factory speakers (Monsoon) to an aftermarket head unit? I have heard that they are individually amped as well so I cannot do that. Now If I could still use those I guess I could go through rewiring the car. I just don't know how much I would be able to spend on new speakers and a head unit if I needed both. Official Car Audio Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 12-13-2006 If I do need to use new speakers and a new head unit.... reccomendations? Best bang for the buck I suppose. Official Car Audio Thread - destroy_my_revo_15 - 12-13-2006 so in theory if i wanted to upgrade my radio in my truck i could use a cheap sony/pioneer ect head unit and some ok not too cheap speakers but will the wiring be good? Official Car Audio Thread - Tex - 12-13-2006 I'm sure some of you remember my 4 punch 10's (crappy ones) running off a 1-channel punch200....it sounded ok, but wasn't anything special at all... well I sold my punch200 and my good thick boxed 10's (2) to a guy.....he installed it into his car and tuned the amp....HOLY chit was I missing out the 7 years I bumped them... the (2) 10's (my old ones) and my old amp KILLED the sound I had with (4) 10's and the same amp... I wish I would have kept the stuff and tuned it 7 years ago!!!! Official Car Audio Thread - chickenfarmer3 - 12-13-2006 I wish i would have bought that stuff.... Official Car Audio Thread - Eracer76 - 12-13-2006 I have lots of pics loaded of some of my old systems I did on my car and a more recent job I did on a customers car for JL Audio I'll post them up later if people want to see.....a couple have me in them from back in 96' :o: Official Car Audio Thread - Ponch - 12-13-2006 Post 'em... Official Car Audio Thread - Tex - 12-13-2006 post 'em up Eric, we ain't skeered of you wearing a mullet....j/k Official Car Audio Thread - UE-Maxx - 12-13-2006 I can't wait to get a car. Going to have to cut down on r/c, but it will be worth it. I don't plan on putting anything major as far as a system goes, but I will get something. Official Car Audio Thread - Eracer76 - 12-13-2006 OK, here goes.... These first pics are not that good since I dont have a scanner, I took pics of the real pictures LOL Keep in mind this first system was 10 years ago and it was my first "real" competition system that also landed my job at Mobile F/X in Lombard and I quite working at Custom Auto Sounds in North Aurora.
