Some 1/18 Brushless Questions - UE-Maxx - 02-21-2007

I am picking up a AE RC18B and I already have the Mamba 5400. Some of my questions would be where should I start as far as gearing? Pinion/spur size.

I also need to choose batteries and a steering servo. I know my lhs has mini hitec ones, but I don't know if they will work.

For batteries, I think I saw some people using cells that are for 1/10 cars, but only using two or three cells to make a pack. Is that possible, if not which batteries should I choose? I don't want to go lipo.

Thanks

Some GP1100's should be good. Or I think it is IB 1400 or intellect 1200 should supply enough juice.

How many cells for one pack?

Some 1/18 Brushless Questions - Ponch - 02-21-2007

6

Thanks

Does anyone have a link to these packs already made or do I have to buy loose cells and build them?

Didn't find any GP's on there, but those intellect 1400's will work.

Thanks.

Now I need a servo and gearing.

UE, check your pms...

As for packs, I've had good success running those intellect 1400's, and have had good power out of GP 1300's as well. Of the two types I prefer the GP's because they seem to take charging abuse a little better(racing electric can be hard on these small cells)

Now that i know you're using a 5400, you got a wide gear range to work with...this Kv rating can take a lot of abuse so you could start with a 60 or 58 spur and get a couple pinion sizes ranging from 15 upwards to 18. Remember that the 5400 is only going to give around 39000rpm so you'll need some gearing to make up for the deficit.

Servo wise, I've gone a couple of routes...a Hitec 56 worked pretty well but the important thing is to look for a DP draglink! The stock steering link is craptastic so you need to work around to a good mod to improve the steering. I've also tried doing a standup 1/10th servo mod...but the truck body is the only thing that fits over it...check out the photo.

This is a result of being frustrated with stripping micro servos...Spectrum(JR) metal gear servo with an alloy drag link(now DP) and a servo arm(now a servo saver from a Monster GT)

Hope this helped.Wink

That helped a bunch.

What is the DP drag link/who makes it?

Thanks

the hitech servo's work very well to me. With the mamba motors you can run up to I believe 12 cells. I was pondering building a 10 cell pack out of 2 ib 1400's. That should be super powerfull if not as much maybe more than a 2c lipo. I would suggest the alum sterring upgrade for the 18 though. My stock one is crazy sloppy and at the brushless speeds I have with the 8000kv it's all over the freakin road

Some 1/18 Brushless Questions - UE-Maxx - 02-22-2007

Do you have a link to the aluminum upgrade?

DP draglink...best servo help you can get.Big Grin

Some 1/18 Brushless Questions - AddictedtoNITRO - 02-22-2007

i Like the link but doesn't that use the stock sloppy servo saver? Thus still allowing play?

Is that made by AE? Maybe hobby town in orland has it.

Some 1/18 Brushless Questions - AddictedtoNITRO - 02-22-2007

I think trinity makes one. I know I have seen it at leisure. Maybe associated makes one. Leisure has a couple in their 18t "boxes"

So what steering servo are you guys running in your rc18's? The one that was recomended to me (HS-81) apparently doesn't fit because I just got home from the hobby shop and it doesn't fit. LOL

A little pissed as if it wasn't for the servo this would be RTR and want to see the speed of this mamba.
