Simple Green. - Mr. Tune - 06-17-2005 We all know simple green works great for cleaning our rc stuff, but how will it react on a car? My truck has tons of bugs and guys all over the grill from the latest trip. Can I use simply green to get that off? Or is it too harsh on the paint? I'm debating on going to the store and picking up bug and tar remover if I can use some of the simple green I have lying around. Simple Green. - snakebite46 - 06-17-2005 Autozone and other parts stores carry a "automotive blend" of simple green. I'd check on that first. But I'm sure a diluted mix of the regular stuff shold work. Simple Green. - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 06-17-2005 Wash it as soon as you can!! Bugs get tougher to get off when you leave them on longer. Canned Bug & Tar remover is a solvent, like kerosene, and doesn't work all that well once the bugs are dried on. After on of my worst bug trips I used 409 (which is a soap based product -surfactant) and worked small areas. Then a good wash, polish, and wax. I am picky about my black car finish, and that worked fine by me. Scrubbing off tough dried bugs can scratch. Keep using new rags as they get old grime on them or you'll destroy the finish. I tried B&T remover, and got poor results. And it was a hassle to wash afterwards because of the petroleum-based nature. Don't know about Simple Green. Read the label to see if it's petro-based. If it is, I know I wouldn't use it. Simple Green. - John78 - 06-17-2005 Mr. T, simple green should work fine. I've used it on my dakota and silverado without problems. Just make sure youre not doing this in the sun and make sure the front end is cool. Even better would be to spray it with a cleaner, then hit it with a pressure washer. Simple Green. - rocco79 - 06-17-2005 Im with JR. .... Use the simple green it wont harm your gm Simple Green. - thenewguy821 - 06-17-2005 rocco79 Wrote:Im with JR. .... The paint would rub off ? :p Simple Green. - rocco79 - 06-17-2005 If it was a Ford..... IT WOULDNT NEED THE SIMPLE GREEN!!! Cuz the bugs wont sick to such a superior machine!!! Simple Green. - thenewguy821 - 06-17-2005 That's because the bugs don't want to ruin their image being seen on a Ford... LOL Before all the criticism starts, I drive a ford.... Simple Green. - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 06-17-2005 I thought he meant that Fords can't generate enough speed to kill a bug when striking it... Simple Green. - John78 - 06-17-2005 ah yes, its always great how quick things can turn to ford vs. chevy! Simple Green. - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 06-17-2005 If you have to be passionate about something, it might as well be automobiles!!! I guess bugs do stick to fords..... Cuz when im Blowin away C5 vettes and f body TRASH (not to mention countless rice moblies) i tend to splatter plenty of those lil guys on my cobra bumper........ Simple Green. - rocco79 - 06-17-2005 Man, i bet i just opened the flood gates...... Simple Green. - thenewguy821 - 06-17-2005 Technically, once a Mustang goes through the "Cobra" conversion, wouldn't it then be a Shelby, rather than a ford? LOL Simple Green. - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 06-17-2005 It's a debate that never ends. Well, GM dropped the F-body, and a C6 will cost you twice what a Mustang will, but you will get 500hp in the Corvette. But the Mustang will have a back seat, and cost less to insure. Since the Camaro and Firebird are dead, I feel the issue is dead, too. No more Camaro-Mustang rivalry. Mustang outlived the Camaro. The loyal Ford oners, and Chevy converts, have spoken with their wallets and the F body is gone. So let's argue Corvette vs. Viper, since Ford doesn't have the new Cobra ready yet, and if they did you would be waiting a year or two to get one, unless you wanted to pay through the nose, like those guys driving new V8 GT's. ps: for the record; I have an old Camaro, from back in the day when looking under the hood meant you actually were able to do something under there. Simple Green. - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 06-17-2005 No, Shelby's are Shelby's, new Cobras are SVT products, from Ford. The same group that produces the SVT Contour and Focus. Simple Green. - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 06-17-2005 Isn't this fun......? Simple Green. - thenewguy821 - 06-17-2005 I was just causing chit... I know Carroll Shelby hasn't been involved with the Ford Mustang/Cobra for quite some time now... Simple Green. - Mr. Tune - 06-17-2005 My simple green thread has been hi-jacked!! But I have to agree with rocco, my new gm kills A LOT more bugs than my cobra did. Must be the sleek and beautiful lines of the cobra. Instead of hitting the grill they just fly over it. Simple Green. - snakebite46 - 06-17-2005 I wish I could find the pics of the Cobra I had. That was one bad-ass ride. Simple Green. - cemeb4dk - 06-17-2005 Simple green takes all the dead bugs off my Schwinn.... Simple Green. - LeeAutoPartsGuy - 06-17-2005 rocco79 Wrote:LOL!!!! That was pretty funny!!!! I got a car for your (cough)car(cough)......on the street? say 500 bucks? Simple Green. - John78 - 06-18-2005 Sorry Lee, I don't think Roc would race. Something about a few tickets in one night a couple years ago. I think that's why he puts some much time into r/c, he can go as fast as possible and not get stopped by the police. Besides, I don't think he was much into street racing, it was more like 140+ on certain expressways or chasin' punks in little pickup trucks that didn't know when to shut up! haha Simple Green. - firesprink281 - 06-18-2005 no, the work is done by ford workers. |
