Do you like your job? - mikeh - 04-13-2007 I got the idea for this thread on another forum, but I enjoyed expressing my own rant. So I thought I would pass it along. I am a mental health worker. I always loved my job and now I run my own program employing people with severe mental illness and providing the support they need to stay employed. I no longer like my job due to the fact that our leaders have retained or appointed people in management who are not competent in their field. On top of that, we have a manager who is a total idiot and a jerk. He kisses up and smacks down. I don't even have to answer to him but he still rubs me wrong at almost every opportunity. To make it worse, his director is also an idiot who is completely blind to the jerk's behavior and often fights the jerks battles for him. I have even addressed their behavior to the both of them and yet they remain clueless. I will be opening up my own Wing Stop franchise in the 6 or 8 months, so Im just buying time now. It just stinks that one really bad apple can actually spoil the batch. The best job I ever had was running my own sign company. I got to work hard and keep my own money. The worst job I ever had was running my own sign company. Customers and employees and taxes and the lonh hours - urgh! So now I will be self employed again! I'm a glutton for punishment. We have selected our Site for the Wing Stop on Ogden ave in Westmont and are negotiating our lease terms. Do you like your job? - hansarvin - 04-13-2007 I work for my dad and ya I'm 14, I help him with plumbing, heating and electrical stuff. I enjoy the work and especially the no pay but this summer I will start being paid to do the work so I might actually have some money for this hobby Do you like your job? - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 04-13-2007 I love my Job. I hate the company I'm doing it for...... Do you like your job? - Jeepguy - 04-13-2007 I love one of my jobs the other is kinda eh..... Do you like your job? - stratcat - 04-13-2007 I guess I'm kind of lucky... I've had four jobs and loved all but one of them, and that one only lasted a short time! my current job is great, good hours, decent pay, and pretty much no hassles.. Do you like your job? - SLOW REVO - 04-13-2007 Owning your own Business has its sheer of headaches. And long hours. But if you stick with it. it Usaully pays off. Im finally starting to get some time off after 8 long years. Stick to your dreams. Its worth the time n effort. Good Luck.alute: Do you like your job? - Tex - 04-13-2007 My job is ok, but I'm severely under paid for my position. Like 25% under paid for the average person in my position in the US. That part annoys me and I've brought it up with the owner. He's "working on it" while I take it in the stink star. Other than that fact, I like what I do, I stay busy, and feel important. Do you like your job? - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 04-13-2007 Who thinks their job is safe? Who thinks their job will be done by a cheaper wage employee in another country, via the internet? These are the things that keep me up at night, and make me tell my HS student son to pick a career that can't be exported to cheap labor elsewhere. The internet and outsourcing of jobs that don't require direct contact with the customer is going to kill lots of jobs here. Do you like your job? - cemeb4dk - 04-13-2007 My job is safe, and you can't do it over the internet. I have acquired skills that many can only imagine of or don't have the confidence to try. My job has very rewarding aspects, but at teh same time it bothers me. For example being on call 24/7, and puttinng other peoples families before yours, never being able to enjoy holidays because your afraid the phone will ring.. On that aspect alot of peopel have the misconception that we get paid alot of money, but if you broke it down by hours worked I bet the guy at Mcdonalds makes more per hour, and how do you put a price on putting your own family second to a family that you have to serve. Do you like your job? - bubbaracing - 04-13-2007 My job SUCKS, I like the turning wrench's but not on these stinky a$$ garbage trucks!, and port-o-potty trucks! Plus on top of all that, my night boss is an a$$ kisser and is starting to play favorites with the other few guys that have came to our shop from a shop that closed down! I think they all like pickin on the fat guy at work! lol Yeah i'm not the fastest worker in the world but it's done right once, not coming back in for follow up work! My motto is quality not quanity! Plus have you ever seen a 320lb guy squeeze into place's little guy's don't dare!? Anyway i'd really be happy to wrench on just semi's and trailers would be great! Really i'd like to do my hobby jobs full time if I had the place and money to do it on my own! OK i've vented enough now! Thanks Mike I needed this! :wavey: Matt Do you like your job? - squirrel - 04-13-2007 Ok I'm doing thid for 2 jobs! My last job, Paltronics inc. We did all the progressive equipment, t.v.'s, roulette displays, bonusing games, and pretty much all the other little chit for casinoes! Great job for the most part. I was considered a network engineer for the company, but my true title was midwest and western service tech. I traveled everywhere, French Lick, Indiana, Denver, Las vegas, California, mississippi, Iowa, Michigan, Kentucky, and assorted other places. Job was cool as hell for the most part. I spent almost 4 months in Vegas, would fly in monday morning and fly out friday night so I could see my family and friends on the weekend most of the time. But Every thing has it's down sides. A lot of the time if I was going to be there for a month on a job they would not send me home over the weekend. I would stay in Vegas with no friends or family of any type. I wouldn't go out on the weekends cause I was on call 24/7 which I had to carry around that stupid azz blackberry, I was getting paid $31k after taxes with full benefits paid buy the company, the downside to that is another service tech there was making $41k a year after taxes and doing half the work as me! That and when I was in town the office was in Crystal Lake. For me thats a 2 hour drive to work and a 2 1/2 hour drive home! To hell with that job! Now I drive a forklift around for Madison warehouses! Haven't had a better job since I worked at the bowling alley! I get paid a decent salary to drive really fast and break stuff! That and I get to have fun ALL night! Come on what other job would let you drive around all night shooting people with airsoft guns!!!!!!!!!!! I feel that if you are unhappy at with what you do, quit! Or shut up and take it! There are thousands of better jobs out there! You just have to go out and get it!!!!!!!!
