temp guage - SaVaGe_DuDe - 04-22-2007 does anone ahve any experience with this temp guage? http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103171&cp=&sr=1&origkw=thermometer&kw=thermometer&parentPage=search found it in my old tool box. good? bad? any feedback or info is welcome. temp guage - Thirdgen89GTA - 04-24-2007 As long as its semi accurage (within 5* to 10*) then don't worry about it. Not all engines like to run at the same temp. I'd just start to worry if the temp gun starts reading over 270*F There really isn't a reason to run an engine that hot, it will wear out very quickly. Temp guns are good when you start off because its a visual indication of what is TOO hot. But as you learn how to listen to a nitro engine you won't need a temp gun as much. I still use a temp gun when I question what i'm hearing from my nitro engine. temp guage - SaVaGe_DuDe - 04-24-2007 well, i udnerstand the language of my motor. and everytime i run it i learn more and more. however, i like to have a temp gun handy jsut incase for re-assurance. BTW, id the " put the cooling head in the oven" trick an accurate way to test out a temp gun? temp guage - Czech-it-Out Graphics - 04-24-2007 u wont hurt a motor running it over 270 if u tune it right, tuning should be done by smoke sound and power not temps temp guage - SaVaGe_DuDe - 04-24-2007 yea, i know, i go by that more than temp. but it never hurt to have a second opinion. also, a question i have for you... would it be ok to run a motor at 300+ degrees if it had good smoke and sounded perfect? wouldnt too high a temp, even thought its tuned, lets say perfectly, hurt the piston and sleeve? or would it only hurt if it cooled down with the piston at TDC? temp guage - Czech-it-Out Graphics - 04-24-2007 if the weather conditions are right then its fine, ive seen a motor run rich at 300 when it was humid out temp guage - Tex - 04-25-2007 +1 to Czech....engines can run 270F+ no problem and last a long time. Running it too rich will kill a motor a lot faster. temp guage - Thirdgen89GTA - 04-25-2007 Tex Wrote:+1 to Czech....engines can run 270F+ no problem and last a long time. I almost didn't get my 528xr warranted because they said it had been overheated when it never saw beyond 260* nor was it lean, lean bogging, or making that lovely lean high idle. temp guage - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 04-25-2007 SaVaGe_DuDe Wrote:does anone ahve any experience with this temp guage? I had one given to me (Thanks George!) and used it until I got a different one. If was fine. I passed it along to Squirrel, so he might have current opinions on it. At RadioShack's price it's a poor value...they sell from Duratrax for around $29. temp guage - SaVaGe_DuDe - 04-25-2007 ok, awosme. thanks dave, now to try and get a hold of squirrel. temp guage - Czech-it-Out Graphics - 04-25-2007 Thirdgen89GTA Wrote:Say that when the mfg wont' warrenty the motor because they say its been beyond 270* and your out some expensive pocket change. Ive never had to have an engine warrantied, wouldnt likely attempt it either unless its a mfg defect as race engines have no warranty temp guage - Tex - 04-25-2007 true, the TZ I had came with a note that said "this ia a race motor, no warranty implied" type of message. temp guage - SaVaGe_DuDe - 04-25-2007 yea, with my picco i had a note telling me to fill it out and send it in for a warranty. unfortunately, my mom thought it was garbage... and well... >_< anyhow, theres soo many opinons on this lol. i guess ill keep running my motor under teh 300 range for sure. |
