Updated Car Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 05-23-2008

Because the last one was full of mindless ramblings....

Here's where I am at. VW is still dragging ass about replacing the trans in my car (since they put a faulty one in) but it is looking like it will be done. The car will be sold and is in great condition. Chances are that it will bring in somewhere between $10k and $13.5k depending on how patient I am.

What I was/am looking for in a new car:

Decent Fuel Mileage (25 average or so would be nice with the ability to get 30+ driving conservative on the highway)

Reliable

Relatively quick, fun to drive, tuneable so that I don't get bored

Able to haul bikes, be relatively roomy

All weather drive ability (since it will see snow)

The Cars I was looking at mainly:

Subaru WRX. Seemed like a nice choice but the looks never did it for me.

Lexus IS300 or SC300. Something just isn't quite right.

What I am considering now:

Audi S4. 250 HP stock out of a twin turbo V-6, all wheel drive, pretty reliable, decent fuel economy, would look fine with a bike rack, and can be had for under $14k if you look hard enough (may have mild modifications).

Any input on the S4?? I really don't see how I can go wrong. It really seems like the first car that would meet all of my requirements. It doesn't hurt that a $600 chip bumps it to 320 HP and 380 lb/ft of torque either....

My buddy had a totallllllly tuned and modded s4. I still owned him with a cobra. Sad but true.
Repairs on it were disgustingly expensive bro.

Updated Car Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 05-23-2008

I believe it on the repairs. It seems like it's any European car, reliable, but if something goes wrong it will really cost you. I'm sure your cobra would beat it. I'm not looking for the fastest street racer around. Something that's fun to drive and pretty quick that I can drive daily, hail bikes camping..... a really do it all car. I know I could make a Subaru faster (they are much lighter to begin with) but I think the S4 would just be a nicer car. I need to find one to drive.

Updated Car Thread - rocco79 - 05-23-2008

Well in that case go with the s4. It was an AWSOME car.

Updated Car Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 05-24-2008

The more I read about it the more I like it. One of the downsides that I do see is how tight the engine bay is. You need to pull the bumper or pull the motor to do just about anything it seems. On the plus side you can find them with swapped turbos and some work done for ~$13k. I really thought they would be more expensive. They are hardly more expensive than my GTI (Blue Book, Edmunds, Classifieds, everywhere) and I can't understand why.

VW vs. Audi
FWD vs. AWD
Twin Turbo V6 vs Single Turbo I4

I really don't get it.....

Updated Car Thread - rocco79 - 05-24-2008

The bi-turbo system and awd on those really is amazing. The only thing is if you build it up alot you cant launch it that hard as the trans and the awd unit will not handle a high rpm launch

Updated Car Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 05-24-2008

Nor will the stock suspension. Haha I was watching some youtube videos and it looked like the damn thing was going to hop off of the ground a good 3 times before it calmed down. If you build an S4 you just need to start swapping in RS4 parts to handle the power. Upgraded clutch is a must on any modded car.

I'll take an electric car that can beat a Ferrari. Lol

Updated Car Thread - rocco79 - 05-25-2008

uh.... ok

Updated Car Thread - J-Dub - 05-25-2008

Figured you'd say that. Big Grin

Updated Car Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 05-25-2008

Show me an electric car in the sub $15k price range that I can take on long trips without having to stop every couple hundred miles to charge and that can beat a Ferrari and I will buy it. Oh, it should be able to fit at least 3 bikes as well. If not, keep the useless comments out of here.

Updated Car Thread - Czech-it-Out Graphics - 05-25-2008

Just like in RC, electric cars are for fags!

Updated Car Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 05-25-2008

Great for drive bys though. (Anyone watch Weeds??)

Updated Car Thread - rocco79 - 05-25-2008

Updated Car Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 05-25-2008

Neither of which I could afford......

Updated Car Thread - Czech-it-Out Graphics - 05-25-2008

alright car guys, 05' subaru STI all season tires + the stockers some stupid fart can exhaust I wasnt too crazy about. 30k miles and looks damn near spotless. Dude was asking 24k for it

Updated Car Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 05-25-2008

Not bad. Depends what you want to do. Do you want to leave the car stock or start modding the shit out of it?? Why STI and not Evo? I would definitely look around for a while though. You can probably find one cheaper. People are always looking to sell fast and you can take advantage of it if you have the cash at the time.

Updated Car Thread - Czech-it-Out Graphics - 05-25-2008

I would just leave it stock, Im not looking to start decking a car out. I have always liked the STI and being 4 door I can still use it to go to the track and stuff. I have just been looking at a sportier car as we got a little inheritance from a death in the family and I have some money saved up, and my shaggin wagon is on its last leg lmao Have also been looking at the pontiac G8

Updated Car Thread - J-Dub - 05-25-2008

Yes, another guy who likes Sedans. Rockin. I'd say Subaru is a good choice. G8's are nice too. Seen them go through the Garage on deliverys a few times.

Updated Car Thread - Czech-it-Out Graphics - 05-25-2008

Ya I dont need some rice rocket, I just dont really want some old man car hahaha

Updated Car Thread - FreeRideFrosty - 05-25-2008

STI is a very nice car. If you were going to plan on modding I would say Evo as it is cheaper and easier to mod. (And also a 4-door) I don't know enough about the pontiac to speak about it. If you're looking for a sporty car that can still fit a decent amount of gear AND get decent fuel mileage (if you can keep it out of boost at least some of the time you're driving) then you really can't go wrong with an STI. Very hot car.

Updated Car Thread - Czech-it-Out Graphics - 05-25-2008

lol and its black too Smile

Updated Car Thread - J-Dub - 05-25-2008

I'm going to vote for the STI because i've always wanted one. and im happy for anyone who gets one. speaking of the STI. I didnt like the new concept when I saw it in a magazine , but now that I've seen it at the Auto Show it;s kind of Grown on me, since I like hatches anyway.

Updated Car Thread - Michowski - 05-25-2008

My votes g8. Id stay away from rice if I were you lol. My neighbors friends has a g8 and I see it from time to time and its a nice car. Very sporty look with clean lines. Its rated at 17/25 for fuel mileage with the 3.6L. Overall its a nice simple car thats got a sporty look. Ive never driven in it or anything so i cant speak from that. Just my observation.
