How much (mph)if any do you gain if you take it out? Or is it just dead weight? And is it easy to install? O saw a kit for it for 12 bucks. Thanks

no top speed gain but slightly more low end gain. Very easy to install and the kit comes with instructions so its just about impossible not to do.

It's not that you gain top end by taking out the reverse, optidrive, mini servo, E-Z Start, stock tires, rods, hinge pins etc. it's all about how fast you get to that top speed without all that junk.
Lighter is faster off the line. Of course once lightened one could change gearing and get a faster top speed if that's your goal. I ran a borrowed 2.5r in my 8.5lb. Carbon Fiber chassised Revo yesterday with a high flow exhaust and I was pleasently surprised at the performance. I haven't driven a 2.5r powered truck in a long time but it's good on a loose track.

What other mods do you feel are a "must have" besides FOC.
08-29-2005, 07:48 PM
Whether bashing or racing, I feel a wing is a must have. Less than $25 for everything to do the mod. You're motor will never touch the ground again if you flip or land wrong, plus you're body will last much longer, saving you money in bodies. Think of it as a free mod because of future money savings!
If money allows, starterbox is a must have too. More things off the truck = less things that can break or not work. Plus you'll save almost 1/2 a lb by removing all the ez start stuff.

Id perfer 1 fast-strong steering servo over 2 slow-weak servos.

8 and a half pounds it pretty good, mines only at 8 pounds right now. Im thinking of making it a lot lighter but we'll see how bored i get.
I really don't want to go any lighter. I've found that I had to put a few heavier aluminum parts on for the sake of durability. But the TZ makes up for any slight weight gains.
Actually the largest single weight gain item on the truck is the Panther Pythons on the Hurricanes. They're great tires that hook up on nearly every track but a bit heavy. Sometimes that helps. I've got Panther Boas on cut Wabash rims coming. Then again, I've added the Dace 23mm hub adapters so we'll see. Frankly staying off my lid has helped my race times the most. P.S. Thanks again John for loaning me the "Race proven trophy winning" 2.5r. I have a P/S coming tomorrow for my old one and I just fit my TZ rotary carb on it. I'm also buying another TZ this week or next. I want the two to share linkage, flywheel, clutch/bell, header/pipe for easy swapping depending on track conditions. |
