10/8/1871- the great Chicago fire. Approximately 250 people were killed in the fire; 98,500 people were left homeless; 17,450 buildings were destroyed along with the original Emancipation Proclamation.

Dad, just be aware that you don't need to cut through the plastic all the way. If you get a good scribed line in the plastic it will just peel right out without cracking. The Ofna cutter helps you get the perfect circle, but you still peel out the material. I have also seen a good square-ish hole made by drilling 4 corner holes and connecting them with straight cuts at tangents to the holes. It makes a nice square with rounded corners. Chances are someone at any given race will have an Ofna cutter if you ask around.

Yes.. I use hole saws to cut the holes in my bodies all the time. If not I simply use a compas and scribe a good deep circle into the body and then literally crack the round hole out.

So as long as there is a cut you can peel the lexan back and it will follow the cut?

A pattern of smaller holes with a body post reamer also works well without reducing the strength of the body as much.

RCDad Wrote:So as long as there is a cut you can peel the lexan back and it will follow the cut? Yes if you score the lexan real well and start to tear it, the tear will follow the score you made. Its kinda nerve racking to do at first so a good way to test it would be to save a couple scraps of lexan off the next body and score and break it.

And if you bash in a woodchip pile it helps keep big chucks on the outside of the body. Don't ask me how I know...... Sorry about the Ofna Olfa mixup, and I even own one!! Olfa, that is.

I trace something round on the windshield, drill a hole in the center of the trace, then cut on the traced line with lexan scissors.
How many times can you say "trace" in a sentence! lol.

Vent holes come in nice if your marshalling. BTW I'm wearing gloves next time I marshall..
09-05-2005, 12:32 PM
I don't want you picking my RC up by the vent holes in the body. You may get yelled at from the drivers stand. It may be different with on-road cars because they are lighter. My 10lb off road cars don't like that

Yeah, with on-road it's tough, not much to pick the car up by and the bottom is hot as hell. My Super Nitro can be picked up by the wing now.
09-05-2005, 01:01 PM
yeah I guess it makes alot of sense to use the holes in on-road mashalling being that they have no bumpers or skids.

I'd like to get some rubber edging to go around the cuts but here is my body now.

Do I see an illegal cvec pipe sticking out from under that body

I don't think anyone will give ya stink about it unless you start kickin all their asses...lol
but, yeah, they are technically illegal, for bigger races anyway.

yup.. I believe there are rules on stinger (exhaust pipe) size, only one is allowed on the pipe, and no moving parts in any exhaust system. Like Tex said tracks won't care unless you are at a big race of you are winning A-mains and somebody decideds to complain about it.

Technically I won't be able to race this car in the a-mains anyway because of it's size. I'll have to start racing the NTC3. By then my driving skills should be much better though.

Looks nice, you dont have much lexan between your 2 vent holes, I hope that doesnt become a weak point for the lexan and rip. Keep it shiney side down and you should be ok.

Shiney side UP, rubber side down.
