Flood or pinch, best shut off method?

Somewhere I heard it was bad to flood the engine to shut it off, I've always pinched the fuel line. However, I notice alot of guys who use the quick cap on their exhaust to shut the engine off. Seemed much easier (and safer) to me when the engine is hot?

I always pinch the line. 2 times I plugged the exhaust real quick to shut the engine off, and both times it killed the glowplug.

I've always put my finger over the rubber exhaust tip on my Revo without any problems.

It killed the glow plug? I saw a guy at the track do it with the heel of his shoe I was like...what the heck?

A good number of people shut off their engines by plugging the exhaust, its just a method that doesnt work well for me. I'll stick to pinching the line.

If you can touch the flywheel from the bottom of your chassis that is the best way to turn off a nitro. It only takes a little push with a finger to stop the motor.

I use the heel of my shoe to touch the flywheel through the slot where ther starter box wheel goes. That would only work for 1/8 scale buggy style RC's though. on my Maxx I used to take the end of an old screwdriver and stop the flywheel. I don't pinch the line or plug the exhaust. Pinching the line leans out the engine until it dies and pluging the engine floods it.

I touch the flywheel on my revo and buggy. Seems to be safest.

I'd say flywheel if you can get to it....otherwise exhaust.

The bottom of the cars are usually hot as hell, I don't know if stopping it by the flywheel would work.

As far as flupgging the exhaust, some people say it's bad, some people say it's the best way. Same goes for the fuel line pinch.

As far as the flywheel method is concerned, I haven't heard any bad. You'll be surprised how easy it is to stop an engine using this method.

I know one thing, priming the engine immediately after it runs out of gass is hazardous to your fingers Big Grin

You can also prine an engine by pulling off the pressure line at the pipe and blowing into it. I always do that method because it saves wear and tear on the pull start or starter box.

I really don't understand how blowing into the exhaust line would save wear on the pull-start...

I will have to try the flywheel touch method. I have used the "shoe on flywheel" before. I also find plugged exhaust to be handy on occasion. I never pinch off fuel supply if I can help it. But come to think of it Traxxas has a pinch clamp on the fuel line of the Revo...hhhmmmm? It's probably best not to do it that way everytime. Pinch testing is a good way to set low speed needle.

So pinch is definitely a no no, flood is better and flywheel is best.

And does it really flood when you plug the exhaust? If exhaust volume can't escape, how much flow is there thru the carb to flood the motor? Stall it this way and see if you can restart it. If it's flooded you would feel it.

Because it takes less pulls to start if its primed. Thus saving wear and tear on the starter box or pullstart. This also works good on a engine that has low compression wear you would have to pull 20 times just to get the line primed.

Ive never had my engine flood using this technique. I stop my motor the majority of the time this way. This is also how mugen instructs u to stop the motor in there manual.
