Robinson Racing Revo gears...
#1
Here's a product that I had always hoped for and now it's available!!! It's a hardened 16t bell/40t spur gear set for the Revo!! I just spoke with them about more ratios and they are on the drawing board. As I just picked them up as a sponsor I will keep you guys advised.

Check it out http://www.robinsonracing.com/index.html

Is 16/40 the stock gearing??

No, the gearing stock gearing is 15/38 for a final drive ratio w/standard tranny of 16.544. With the 16t/40t it's 16.326. That'll give you a little bit more top end speed. But more importantly you won't strip out a spur gear during race. Especially for guys running TM/TZs!

No problems here stripping out gears. Stop crashing and you wont need metal gears on the Revo.......

yes but with the revo its very rare to be stripping out spur gears. Im running the same spur gear as when i first ran a tz in spring along with 3 other tm's on this spur. It shows sign of being dirty and a tiny bit worn but works as good as anything metal and just as reliable. But hey if you prefer metal gears then more power to ya. Whatever it takes to finish a race.

Well, I use the business card method of setting gear mesh so I'm confident that my gear mesh is correct and the stock gears have still stripped. The teeth wear kinda quickly and I'm sure I've landed while on power more than I should've and that contributed to them stripping out. Hey it happens.

I'm sure Gabe will start having this problem running a BB. I guess my motor just has more torque and speed than most http://www.tntmods.com ! As you will no doubt see as I go flying past you guys on Sunday! LOL!!!!!!!

Business card really ? I use a small peice of tissue paper for gear mesh. I run my slipper tight also. When your stripping out those spurs Bruce, do you find that the motor has moved out of alignment ?

Snakebite, I tried the "two pieces of notebook paper" method and found that the noise and the resistance concerned me. I want my mesh to just enough so that it will freewheel when rolled backwards without noise.

I hear you on the motor alignment thing. I've made a custom motor brace to reduce/eliminate chassis flex at the motor mount. This is a huge problem on the Revo chassis. Actually I'm talking with my chassis sponsor Vantage http://www.vantageracing.com about a new bumpstart only extended chassis design I've come up with that will tub out the space behind the motor and greatly increase the strength in this area.

The only spur I have ever stripped on my revo was because the motor shifted due to an accident.

A business card is to thick if you ask me.

Plastic bag that parts come in works for me Smile

I've always used a single strip of printer paper. But I feel it's more of a chassis flex problem that will strip a spur rather than the material of the spur itself.

Eliminate the flex...problem solved. Strengthen the gear...problem avoided.

Just my $.02

Yeah I've tried different techniques myself. When my mesh is set, the is no resistance on the CB/Spur. So freewheeling is not a problem. One thing I noticed, is if you take your truck apart alot for routine maintence, youhave to make sure that the 2 star washers are re-installed. I forogt to install one of them and happened to check my mesh after a heat. I didnt damage anything, but noticed that mesh had moved alitttle.

The chassis is probally the weakest point on the Revo. You can literally move the engine front to back on it. Someone on the UE board I think made a reinforcement plate for help the flex issue.

Hopefully, Vantage will listen to advise and come up with something to help that problem.

Gabe, theres 2 star washers that sit in little reliefs between the motor mount plates. they go on the outside adjustment.

I had thought that there was supposed to be washers there, my Revo never had any from new.

Those star washers even came with my 3racing motor mount-which is a great mount BTW. Machined billet not that pot metal cast garbage like stock!

Snakebite, gotta link to that motor brace? I'd be curious to see how/if it dffers from mine.

I dont have an exact link for it. If you go to the UE board and look for user BBC402 you might be able to find it that way. Its been a while since I saw it.
It hink some sort of metal bracing along the outer side of the chassis should be good enought to stop the flex issue.
