So you wont tell them to put it out huh? So you dont have the right to be somewhere and not have to deal with something that bothers you, something you cant stand, and something that is bad for yourself. So your saying that person should be able to blow smoke in ur face and u jsut walk away? why dont u just let the dude plow u in the ass too and smile about it

mike there is no way in hell i would let someone sit there and blow smoke in my face. I seen what lung cancer can do to a person. i dont ever want that to happen to me.

I'm in no way a politician but I'm kind of glad about the news, I in no way like the way that it smells but when I do go out to a bar of somplace that I know that there are going to be people that are smoking I know what I'm getting myself into and just deal with it. This is going to hurt the IL people in some way or the other to make up the lost rev but there is nothing that anyone can do about it now except for suck it up rub some dirt on it and drive on.

Lastly the only thing that I have to say and I'll stick up for Mike on this one about the chew issue because I chew as well and have for a long time, is that yes we spit in a cup, can, bottle or what ever is avail at the time but after we are done with it we 98% of the time throw it away, at my work there are times when I have to go outside and clean up a bit and its funny to me that there are ashtrays out there and for some reason people feel it is a burden to put there butts in it and decide to just throw them on the ground. I dont seem to find to many chews that are laying around HUH In the Military it is a split 50% chew and 50% smoke and we still had to pick up all the butts and never someones chew. Yes people would rather smell like smoke then see someone with a chew in there mouth and that will always be but you wont go home and smell like an ash tray just smell like a breath mint LOL.

people that dip, most atleast, know their habbit is nasty and dont want everyone on the planet to know. Its discreet. People that smoke could care less who knows about it im sure they know its a bad habbit but whatever it doesnt matter. Smokers will throw their butts on the ground like its no biggie, people that dip know thats its phuckin nasty to pick up somebody else's dip and wont do that crap. (im not bashing smokers, just describing my perception of a group of them, not all are like that so dont jump on my shit)

You don't have to leave a restaurant, they all have non-smoking areas, usually much larger than the tiny corner of a few tables that's smoking, if there even is a smoking area. More and more restaurants are going fully non smoking everyday because they choose to, not because some one told them too. So that point is mute.

I can't remember that last time I walked into a school or library or office building or public venue that allowed smoking either, unless there was an outside patio. So that point is mute too.

These are the wishes of the business owners and I'm fine with that. I'll simply not smoke when I'm there and wait to get outside or in my car. That's the way it should stay, in the hands of the business owner, not the government.

I am already mad that soon I won't be able to have a cigarette while filling my gullet full of beer or stairing at some boobies or sitting at the blackjack table in the casino...

I wonder what freedom they'll want to take from us next?

Don't like smoke? Then what the hell around you doing in the 10% part of the area that is designated as smoking? Leave to the other 90% of the area!

There is a huge difference between a business owner's personal decision versus the government telling your what's right and wrong.

One day you'll be 21 mike, and then you'll realize what kind of problem this causes for the bars and clubs. Do you realize the hassle that will cause when half the people or more in the place smoke either regularly or socially?

A few years ago while on vacation in cali with my brother, we headed out to one of the local clubs. The inside was nearly vacant and the outside patio was wall to wall with people! It was a damn shame!

That's where were headed to here. Only here we don't have the weather and most places don't even have an outdoor patio due to space.

This is going to suck and will not be a good thing to alot of people, and it makes thing worst now that this morning I heard that they are going to raise the price of smokes now too. Politicians sit around all day in there big office and nice leather chairs and think of all the things that they want to have power of soon as it has been stated it will be what we can eat all the way up to what positions will be ok to do and not to do this is just the start of all that crap.

Nope it won't be good at all.

I just had a talk with my brother who is the night manager at my dad's restaurant. It's located on the western edge of cook county and follow's cook county's ban on smoking. Overall revenue is down since the ban, because the giordano's 10 minutes away is in dupage and they still allow smoking. Many of the regular tables that were smokers stopped showing up. On top of that, smoking table also had higher average checks dollar wise. Smokers tend to be less health consious and that leaded to more liquor and pop sales versus the non smoking tables that only order water.

They are not happy at all. My dad gets bonuses based on profits. So this stupid law is costing him more money, and the city is losing tax revenue as well. I wouldn't be suprised if they raised property tax to compensate for lost revenue from the places that used to allow smoking. Then it becomes a double kick in the nuts. Smaller paycheck, bigger bills! Thanks to all the jagoff politicians for telling us what's right and wrong!

I always fought and defended the smokers, even when I didn't smoke!

OK but now that the ban is statewide....Buisness may level out a bit among the smoking community since now there is no real advantage of going to place a compared to place b anymore because place a (which used to allow smoking where b did not) now is also smoke free....So it all should come down to quality/service.

Cook county has a 98 cent tax on cigs, not including all the other govmt taxes. Now they will rais it again by 75 cents more.
The purpose is not to disuade people from smoking but to raise revenue for the Illinois budget!
Now, when cig sales decline, do you think perhaps they might increase the taxes on beer and alcohol? Hmmmm..........

Yep, I agree! Or worse raise taxes via property tax or out of our checks. They will make their money one way or the other. If cig sales go down big time, they get it from another source, which will affect everyone, even the bitching non smokers.

People fail to realize how much tax is in cigs. It's not your standard sales tax rate around 7%. It's closer to 50%! That's alot of dough for the government.

What I have witnessed in California at bars is when drunken people conrigate outside to smoke there is trouble at times, since the bar owners and bar security have to control what happens outside of thier doors. I have seen fights break out due to liquid courage and the fact they are now outside in a parking lot and are not confined to a bar/club owners rules.

But it does suck the government is telling the hard working business owners what can and can not happen in thier own business. Whats next, your own house?
