What car would you rather have given to you?
#26
well, after having an ABS car, I'd almost rather not. It sent me through an intersection the first time I had it kick on. on my old car I had none I could put enough pressure for some tire slip but still stop, I hate ABS...

so your saying you can cycle the brakes more than 15 times a second like the standard abs module?

I can't cycle 15 times a second, but I hate ABS none the less. >_<

its cool if you lock up your brakes on pavement and can turn. however, in snow, ice. F*!# I can't stand it. I almost died, lol.

the bald tires didnt help, even with new tires I still hate it.

Glad I'm not the only one who hates the foot humping you get from ABS systemsSmile One of the reason I bought the Cherokee I have is that the truck wasn't equipped with ABS ($500 option). Dad is getting to be of the opinion that ABS makes for more dangerous drivers since now you don't have to pay as much attention to what's going on around the vehicle.

wow.... Just wow...... Joe ive never disagreed with you so much. How does abs make people not pay attention to the road?!!? people are just as bad of drivers as they ever were.

A.b.s. saves lives... Ever had to steer during a panic braking?!?! I have. without it i would have not bveen able to steer and slow down as some turned left right infront of me! Thanks a.b.s.

Ever seen airbags save a life??? I have....

Maybe you should take the seat belts out of your car too, i mean those were scoffed at too untill the ignorant realized how much they helped...

Meh, for my sports cars I don't want ABS, Airbags, or any other weight increasing items. My GTA doesn't have ABS, TCS, Stability control, or anything else. Course it came in a time before all those were standards on cars. Wasn't even an option on my car at the time in 89'.

For a modern daily driver, if I were buying new it would most likely have abs, tcs, and airbags I wouldn't turn it down depending on the price of the option. However I'm not so attached to them that its a must have feature for me. In a used car I really wouldn't care if they had them one way or another. I've been without ABS for my entire driving life so I don't really care about it. Good tires can make all the difference.

Well Rocco, if your car modulates the brakes for you, has big pillows that cushion you in impacts, and sensors that tell you when your tires are low, activates brakes and cuts throttle when the drive wheels spin, ect, that can give a false sense of security, then minds can wander off to other things that safely driving to your destination..........................

As far as panic braking, I give my self so much space in traffic and watch the car ahead if the car in front of me for brakelights so that's rarely a problem for me.

I'll say Airbags are good. like I said ABS is good in dry pavement. on Snow or ice. you jsut go straight, and hit s#$t I've honestly experienced better stopping from non-abs cars in bad weather.

My standings.

Seatbelts-Good
Airbags-Good
Ford traction control (as far as sideways sliding) good
Scion traction control (as far as sliding) horrible
ABS-iffy.

Joe... Somtimes giving the guy in front of you room isnt always a prevention of an accident. I was speaking of when someone made a left in front of me while i was traveling at 50 mph (corner of randall and main st) i was able to mash the brakes AND steer around the guy. Id like to see you do that without a.b.s... Then id like to see you after the impact withOUT an airbag.
But since you seem to be able to tell the future, you dont need saftey devices or " saftey pillows" in your car/suv.

Thirdgen-
i agree i dont want traction/yaw control in a sports car. But when i had a cobra i was glad to have my a.b.s. and airbags for those ohhh sh!t moments.

somehow I doubt even though youre getting "expenses" paid. they arent going to be dishing out 100 bucks to fill up your gas-tank all the time...lol...getting a whopping 12 mpg.

Also, its going to be hard for you to get a job, with or without a degree, without experience. you should get a part time job in your field.

Yes, they will. When I'm in college all they want me to focus on is studying. My field will be dentistry. I am doing a summer internship with my dentist in a few years. My parents love education, my mom got an MBA from michigan and my dad a degree from SIU.
By them paying for all expenses and what not, I can be free to study and learn, and god forbid, have a good time in BOULDER, snowboarding and skiiing every weekend

Responsibility? I get that alot. I am very responsible. I deliver food so I have my own income. But since I have a mininum amount of expenses I can invest it instead of throwing it away on a car payment or gas or insurance or rent or something. Since my parents cover all that good stuff, the money I earn can go to a interest bearing account, and thanks to compound interest I will have a big boost when I start my life after dental school and all that good stuff. I love when people argue responsibility, yes I know I am lucky, but I am not one of those spoiled brats who think the world is sitting there waiting for them.

Take the truck. It will help you all the moving young people have to do when they get out of the house.
And keep saving your money. Dental school is a great choice, but it will set you back an entire house payment for 7 years in the loans. Be prepared.

Mike, pay attention...they are loaded...school will be paid for!!! LOL

anyway, (hijacking to follow) my son is applying to colleges with plans for dental school in mind...it is STAGGERING when you look at the cost of dental school...you are essentially setting up as a dentist to learn to become one! Just like auto mechanics need tools to go to class, so do dental students. First year at Marquette dental is $80k....

god I hope he can't get in......

Joe, Your an IDIOT and your posts are some of the dumbest I have ever read on here. And have to agree with Rocco 10000000 %. In his career as well as mine we see the outcome of no airbags, no seatbelts. And how ABS can save lives. You might not notice it in your few mile treck to hobby town, but those of us that actually drive places appreciate these safety items. Just ask anyone that lost someone in a car crash that wasn't wearing a seatbelt or before airbags where standardized. Or ask someone that was saved by these devices. Now if your car was designed for a track or off road rock climbing then you may have some merit to your comments if you stated that before yor comments. BUt we have seen your car and its not. A K& N filter doesn't make it ready for the Baja 500.

And for the simplier the better comments, you should maybe try a bike, but only a single speed with a caster brake. You wouldn't want to over complicate it and make it unsafe by having 10 speeds and maybe a cable to pull for the brakes. I mean with those options you might just ride out in traffic in front of cars because you will feel over safe and not think about pedalling or something and get hit by a car.....

Man get REAL!!!!!

That part made me laugh lol. But it's all true. I get as many possible options on my wifes suv. The kids ride with her and am a big fan of them being surrounded in airbags and safety technology!
