Ponch has a car with a fried clutch
06-11-2008, 11:08 PM
Ok...So on the ride home from Plainfield tonite.... Going down 59... All of a sudden the car got like 10 times louder and scared the shit out of me... Pulled off the side of the road to make sure I didn't lose anything and then I left for home. Get home... Sounds like the pipe came apart right after the midpipe (I think that's what it's called) but before the cat... It's SUPER loud and I'm glad I didn't get pulled over ( just happened, like 8 minutes ago )... But on the up side it's not so ricey...
Well I guess I get to do some extra work tomorrow instead of just changing the oil as I had planned. Tekno EB48.4 HobbyWing XR8 Sanwa M12

Lol, you havent seen a fried clutch till you a see a camaro with the clutch all the way out, and it's not moving. even though you've got it at like 3000 RPM lol. so sad...had to be pushed. that's a fried clutch.

Hehe, my Lebaron did that a couple times, the turbo didn't to much to muffle things Bad part was that the first time it happened I was on the way home from work after working overnight at Toy's "R" Us and had to drive the car back home through town at 7am on a Saturday!

take your car to a muffler shop and have em fix/replace the exhaust as needed.

I belive that the Cat is part of the manifold. The manifolds sometimes crack on those. If it got loud in the mid-pipe there is a flex pipe that can come apart too.

Thanks Gabe...
Yeah I got the pipe fixed, it had previously been rusted through/patched several times in a few spots. Now I have one peice (instead of two) between the cat and the exhaust. Downside is that, with the exhaust all in tact, the car sounds rice-ier...lol I will have some updates soon, starting a project tomorrow. OH and I broke the m-f'in door handle off yesterday...wtf. maybe the door handle fell off previously and the previous owner "band aid" that sucker back up there.

I have snapped door handles on Hondas before. Don't gorilla-grip them, and they should last. You can't yank on them or let them snap back, or they fail early.

Cool Ponch. Feel good to have your own car?? It's nice that it has an Si motor swapped in. (Which one exactly??) You can do some work to it in the future to make it fairly quick if you want to play around with it for a while. I don't mind the wheels, but I think 18s are too big on that car. Doesn't leave you with much cushion for a surprise pot hole. I would personally sell them (if they were in good shape, can't tell from the pics), buy a used set of slightly smaller but still after market wheels (they should be cheaper since most people don't want after market wheels smaller than 18") and then use the extra money that you would have from selling yours to mod (or put gas in) the car.
Cool though. I can't wait to get something else other than my GTI.

Kinda feels good... Since I can actually do stuff to it, and my parents don't freak as much about me driving places (before we split the gas 3 ways, but since I'm paying for all of my gas they don't care as long as I have the money saved). It's got the 99 Si motor swapped in, 160 hp stock plus the intake/exhaust so somewhere around 170-175 I'd guess as it sits now. I already ditched the 18's, the car got wayyy slower from a dead stop and I didn't like it, so I put some 16's I have on there. They look decent It's those, but they are silver (machined aluminum) not painted like those. Spent the cash from the 18's on tools.... got like a 170 pc set of tools, a jack, 2 jackstands, wheel chocks, and a creeper. Tekno EB48.4 HobbyWing XR8 Sanwa M12

Nice. Yeah...Big Wheels aren't good unless they are light. the lower profile tire helps on handling. but as Free-Ride said, you hit a pot-hole here, in good ol shitty-road illinois you're kissing a tire or a rim goodbye. my buddy popped 2 tires in a pothole in palos heights

I think those rims would look nicer anyway. Good work and it sounds like you got a decent amount of tools as well.
And hell.... I blew a tire on a pothole on stock 17's in my GTI. (Thank you North Ave.) That was a shitty night.

I think tomorrow I might make my new floor for the trunk area... Already got the wood, just got to take some time, make a template (cardboard) and cut it out and carpet it.
Might carpet the sub box too. Idk how adventurous I'm feeling. And I'm working on figuring out what all is going on in the engine compartment... Had a couple extra 12v relays and a whole harness that didn't hook up to anything. Guessing the last guy had some fogs or something. Then I see a chunk of metal tube that I'm guessing was left over from the swap(or taking out the AC), I cut the zip tie around it to take it off, and there's a sensor zip tied in there with it that doesn't go to anything...Not sure what it is, but if I had to guess it's the O2 sensor as the new intake doesn't have a hole for that. So that could be causing my idle problems (not really a problem, just goes up/down a bit, not dieing or anything) Ideas? I can get a pic in the AM. And I don't have a passenger side bright... But it's only one bulb (and I just replaced them with Sylverstar (sp?) halogens) so that means it HAS to be in the wiring somewhere correct? Oh and what fluid is green? Disconnected a hose today and bam green fluid. Whoops. Tekno EB48.4 HobbyWing XR8 Sanwa M12

Green fluid is the coolant.
And you're not going to have an o2 sensor in the intake.... Idle, that could just be the TB needing a good cleaning.

check your throttle position sensor, mass airflow sensor. Check your plugs, cap, rotor. Theres a lot that can lead to a poor idling motor. Check your timing as well.
o2 sensors are only for exhaust and they just help to give the motor the proper air/fuel ratio. Those could be going as well. If there in bad enough shape they could cause poor idling problems. Also they will make your gas mileage drop a decent amount as well. My opinion tho, since its a new car do a complete tune up. Change all the fluids in the car, check through all the sensors, new plugs and wires, the works. Go over everything in the car and replace whats needed.
06-23-2008, 09:33 AM
A sensor that would be connected to your intake would be your MAF sensor.
06-23-2008, 10:17 AM
Like I said, I'm not sure. lol. Doesn't look like any MAF sensor I've ever seen (did a whole damn project on the mothafucka)
I'm actually not too worried about the idle, it's not horrible... Or even bad. Just a little. Tekno EB48.4 HobbyWing XR8 Sanwa M12

IDK what that is? Two wires coming out of it, then they join into a larger harness. Tekno EB48.4 HobbyWing XR8 Sanwa M12

I know for a fact alot of hondas didn't come equipped with MAF Sensors till later. I have a 98 and It doesnt have one.

Can you see inside the pipe? To see what's on the other side of the wires?
