high speed servos

With my Mayhem ST...the stock steering servo--I am not happy with.

What would be a good upgrade to speed and torque??


Right now I do have Futaba S9302(yeah I know it is discontinued) that I could use.
Specs on that one are:
Weight 2.30
Torque oz./in. 99.00
Speed 0.19/60


Currently in truck now is the JR Z590M
Torque: 85 oz/in at 6V
Speed: .15 sec/60° at 6V
Weight: 1.6 oz


okay I guess by looking at this that the Futaba one would nto be a better choice for steering but better for the throttle I would say.

i would highly recommend a JR 650m. at $50 its a more bang for your buck. it has 142oz/in

save urself the frustration and spend the extra money for the futaba 9350's they are the most reliable and strongest servos on the market we use them for year in our buggies and never have issues, they are like 120$

Or you could go with the AIR 94358 I've ran them for a year or so and haven't had any trouble with it at all. Just another option.

Dude, if you want serious steering with holding power and torque get the airtronics or the futaba that czech it out is recommending.... They are very VERY strong servos that will take a beating and the rigors that racing will throw at them

ACE makes good servos too, I honestly think they are made Futaba. You cant beat the price either along with the performance.

I really think the JR650z will help you aqccomplish what your looking for in a servo at only $50. It's .17secs at 142oz....seems faster than .17secs to me comparred to other brand servos with about the same specs.

Tex that servo you mention is slower than the one I have now.
The only other difference is the torque

JRZ650M--$49.99
Torque: 142 oz in @ 6V
Speed: .17 sec/60 degrees @ 6V

JR Z590M
Torque: 85 oz/in at 6V
Speed: .15 sec/60° at 6V


So what are the thought on this one

JR Z4750--$84.95
Torque: 96 oz/in at 6V
Speed: .12 sec/60° at 6V

Airtronics and the Futaba one mentioned are the $100 range but much more torque.


So my next few questions would be...
The torque verses speed. Where to draw the line?
How does the torque affect the speed while in use?

The torque seems to be okay with the one I have now but it is just a tad to slow for me to make sharper turns when I need it to.
what about going from a 5 cell Rx pack to a 6 cell pack??
I know the old futaba one when I used in in my electric it was very fast and it was snappy but now in the gas truck is is sluggish.
The only deal I see here is that the power came from the 7.2 volts through the ESC and in the gas one is is a lil Rx 6v pack.

So that is my thought on bumping up the volts---what is the down side to this based on what I have above?

I'ma second John and Tex on this one-JR650's are the way to go. These are, by far, the best servo's I've ever had. The specs mean nothing- These'll torque the wheels side to side on my revo or k2 (I have one on steering for both) like there was no tommrow. These are great, for the price, These should probably be around $75...They could get that easy. Try one, and you will like it.

Bio Check out the ace brand servos from amain, that Joe T mentioned earlier. fast speed good torque, heat sinks on the case, and a low cost. MIne is 180oz and .10 seconds, plus they are digital.

Digital will have more holding power, this is very important for steering on a MT. Plus I think it was only $83 bucks or so.

the reason your truck doesn't turn now is because in a MT you want way more torque than 85oz. More like 125oz at a minimum. Your 590 'seems' slow because of the lack of torque. I had the JR650z on a 11lb MT and it whipped the tires back and fourth no problem.

That Ace servo looks like a killer servo for the money. You have experienced guys on here who have personally tried them and they say they rock so I would trust them and just drop the $83 and be done with it.

Hey Bio, I run a JR z8800t. Its a great servo and has a 3 year warranty. $110. I have one in the revo im selling. Buy my revo, swap servos then resell revo... :wavey:

Well it looks like I will go with the Ace one.

Have you guys heard of Blue Bird servos and if so what are the thoughts on those
for the heck of it.

Have not heard anything good about blue bird. Just a note on the ace servos they use Futaba servo horns. The servo comes with a nice aluminum collared double horn. But just an fyi if you where going to pick up heavy duty or aluminum ones.
