List of Chicago Onroad Racers
#1
I would like to compile a list of inner city and outlying near suburban Onroad racers. I am considering going onroad simply out of logistical reasons. One being although leisure is an awesome track, it is way far for me to travel. Time not being on my side I forsee issues scheduling time to go to the track to practice and race, competitively. Seeing as I live in the city and have plenty of pavement around me onroad seems like the better route. What I would like to do is find out if there are people in and around the city who would like to do club races at parking lots that are either in the city limits or slightly outside the city limits. So if you run onroad and live in chicago or a near suburb post here along with who you are and what your running.

Thanks,
PoPRC

Yeah I did notice that lot. But the one that really caught my eye is the Lane tech parking lot. Looks like its pretty smooth blacktop.

How big is Lane's parking lot?

It's a pretty big lot. I google earthed a Satellite image. The Lane Tech parking lot is in RED and the DeVry lot is in BLUE. I havent totally figured out if I am going onroad I'm heading down to leisure with a friend and it's up between a Jato and some onroad, but not both(I wish). I wanna save some cash for the RC helicopter I am gonna buy for my birthday.

I used to run my car in that Devry lot back in the day. It was about 15 years ago I built a n Inferno10 I think, It was a nitro 1/10th 4wd buggy. One of my first jobs was at Forest City auto parts which was across the street where that party suply store is now.
After building that thing and running, I lost interest. Was boaring running that thing in circles by myself. More fun partying by the canel in back with friends...
Anyway, If you guys get something going, Id run over there with some roadrage tires on my buggy and spin some laps with you. It would give me an excuse to stop in on my parents afterwardsIdea

I really wanted some kind of on road/parking lot basher as there are plenty of parking lots around the house, but a dedicated on road car just didn't really appeal to me. I ended up purchasing a Jato instead and plan to use that as the "road" car. It just seems a little more forgiving if the parking lot isn't perfectly smooth or flat or whatever, plus it can easily go off road if I decide to. I also like that I will use the same type of glow plugs and 33% top fuel in the Jato & Revo which means less stuff to carry around if I plan on running both cars.

If you do a lot of parking lot racing, I recommend the RS4 Super Nitro, only because it sets up pretty high.

I just picked up a Nitro RS4 Evo 3 from leisure last night, I wanted to get the R40 kit but they didnt have it, and my buddy was gonna buy a car so i figured I just get the same car as him to keep it even. Although now I kinda wish I put the R40 on order. MY problem now is the guy who sold me the car gave me the wrong charger for the rotostart stick pack.

Ehhh.. 1/10's suck in Parking lots unless they are perfectly Preped and flat smooth and clean. If all you do is parking lot running Go with a Kyosho Inferno GT. Its basically just a 7.5 Buggy with a full body and 2 speed trans.

That Kyosho is nice! Is it 1/10th or 1/8th scale. $389.99 isnt too bad. Hmmm.

Most racers I've seen use a starter box. I think I was the only one at Tinley using a pull start.

My .02 here....

Bag the rotostarter and install a pullstart, or get the bumpbox. The shaft location on the rs4 is so close to the shock on the rear that you risk bending the spring.

I noticed that too...I'll probably convert to bump start.

Of course if your talking parking lot non-points racing it probably does not matter.

For bumpstart, actually the dynamite ready start worked well for me...would have been better though if I had the alignment pegs...It's pretty cheap too.

If you have any plans on racing in the future at Leisure, Intense Raceway, or some of the other tracks in the area I'd really invest in the starter box.

Parking lot bashing with onroad cars is really not that fun unless you get a ton of guys running it. If you live near Lane Tech IRP is probably a 1 hour drive away for you.

I live a couple blocks from Lane and it doesn't take me that long to get there.

Any properly setup car nitro and/or electric would work well. In my opinion if you're just 'bashing' I would buy the nitro so you don't have to worry about runtime...just fuel and go.

The HPI RS4s are nice...but if you get into racing you will see they somewhat lack in that department. The HPI R40 is their more purpose built race car. If budget is a concern I would really bash/race a Associated NTC3.

If you do go out by Lane Tech post on here and maybe I'll swing by and check it out or help you guys out with setup if needed.

I race Tamiya 415s and MSXs so I really don't like bashing them in parking lots Tongue

Bashing in the lane lot is fine for me and my buddie. I am gona try to find some people who would like to do just some fun club racing. I've been to Intense and leisure and they are great tracks but its too much of a drive and my time is just too limited to add that to my schedule. I gotta think there are some people who wanna race in the city.

I think I'm going to sell my Super Nitro (depending on what am offered), I'm thinking I'll probably end up racing MT exclusively.
