The track is looking good, I like the little walls/fence idea, it should work fine to keep people from going over the edge.
So Bernie, since there isnt going to be tubes, is the track going to be "dug out" a little, to provide a little dirt curb outlining the track instead of tubes? I have not doubt it will be great no matter what you do, just Git-R-Done soon!

I like the fence idea.......but i would love to see someone in the middle of a race fly over that fence. that would be funny

Yes the grassy part will be higher so there will be a burm of dirt around the lanes. we will start with the layout we have now and on Mondays weather permit we will change some jumps , cut in some new lanes so that the track layout will not be the same each week.

Bruce you should go into politics. You would get paid to argue and complain.
Bernie... Track loks great. Keep up the good work.

Quote:The hoops are only a problem for them who can't stay in the lanes. Or for them (as in more than one driver) that are running behind someone else that biffs a tube and kicks one out into the track Or for those that Marshall and get their foot tangled in one that got knocked out of place by a vehicle.....and they take a tumble while their head winds up 'in the way' of a flying 5 pound pile of plastic and aluminum. Or for the marshall that might get one shot out from under the tires of a car/truck whos driver didnt see it laying there.... and the marshall gets it stuck in his eye. The current 29 cent hoops SUCK.... EVERY time I have been at the track, I was picking some up, and trying to push em back in while marshalling. If it wasnt me, it was someone else. Quote: have been getting prices and the best so far is 2.50 a three foot lenght. I need 200 hoops. right now I can use that money for the lights we want outside. Your track, your ideas, but from the cheap seats, that $400 or so, seems like cheap insurance, to keep participants a little SAFER. But than again, there is ONLY 14-15 hours of daylight now.....them lights are more important than some kids eye.

5 pounds.... 8 pounds....10 pounds or 4
How are YOU gonna feel if your car ( or truck) blasts someone in the skull because they tripped over one of them 29cent hoops? But hey....at least it will be light enough to be able to see the kids eyes roll to the back of his head. Some short sighted folks might even think it would be kinda cool to see. That is until some kids mom or dad sues the track into non existance.

Ed Kaz Wrote:5 pounds.... 8 pounds....10 pounds or 4 I don't want to start this arguement again but I do not feel it is safe for kids to be marshalling anyway. Their judgement and reflexes are just not developed enough yet....

most races do not have any kids at the track, except for the ones that race, Derek W. is prolly the youngest one i can think of seeing anywhere near a track. I think the problem is not with the ".29$ hoops" but more with the parents watching the kids...

Quote:most races do not have any kids at the track Unfortunate isnt it? Those that YOU refer to as 'kids' are the ones that should be enjoying the hobby the most...but for SOME REASON are seldom seen racing RC cars anymore. When I say/said "KIDS", I am referring to many of YOU. Being an old fart, I often refer to anyone under 25 as a 'kid'. In a way, you are right...the "problem" is NOT just with the 29 cent hoops, but also the ignorance/arrogance displayed by many, when SUGGESTIONS or CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is posted. Quote:Their judgement and reflexes are just not developed enough yet.... Kinda like the 25 yr old that was out partying the night before and shows up to race hung over. ???? As far as YOUNG CHILDREN being out on the track.... I think we all( Including Bernie) can agree a track with cars flying all around em is really no place for them to be playing.

Ed first of all this thread is for the outdoor track and if you read above you will see that there are no tubes that are going to be laid down on the off road outdoor track so that means that there will be no 29 cent hoops out there.......and it may be light earlier in the day but when it is about 8:00 it gets to dark to see your car, so you then have practice going to 10:30 and know one will be able to see and then youll have kids running into the fences because they cant see and then busting their head open. so yes lights are more important for the outdoor track.
if your talking about the hoops on the indoor track then you should go their and talk to bernie in person. I dont mean to be a di*k, but right now your dissing bernies decisions w/o him even talking to you about it. so please talk to bernie if you think his decision is wrong. thanks, kevin Losi 8ight with v-spec

Mods, lock it.
I thought all discussions of the track that involved "suggestions" were banned. Go post them on LHR forum. The pictures posted were an update for those interested in seeing the progress out there. Thanks to Slim for them. I think the construction work on the track is top-notch from the pictures. It looks like a miniature Churchhill Downs horse track with the "rail" on the fence. Rain...go away so it can be ready soon!

Ed I think if you go back and read post #50 you will see New hoops are in the works and I do think of safety. I used lights but my point was we will need to put a ton of money in out door to get it open hopefully in three weeks. When the outside is open the hoops inside is not a problem til nexts fall and by then we will have new ones.
05-13-2006, 09:22 AM
Oh and wish our presents hoops was only .29 cents. they cost 1.75 four years ago. if anyone know where we can get rods cheap please let me know.

What is the wire diameter and length needed, and qty?
05-13-2006, 10:46 AM
3/16 by 3 foot. The old ones are only 2 foot. We would need at lease 200
05-13-2006, 10:53 AM
I'll see what I can find out. How do you bend them? Over a mandrel/jig of some kind? By hand? Machine? Conduit bender?
05-13-2006, 11:04 AM
the ones I have I bend over a 3 1/2 pipe
