Summer Carpet Racing Info
#1
For any of you people who enjoy carpet racing, especially if you don't mind traveling or live far north.... two things to note coming up. First Trackside in Brookfield (Milwaukee) Wisconsin will be hosting their Summer Sizzler race on July 16th. Lots of great talent will be attending and as usual there will be various classes so don't be afraid to sign up if your a newbie.

Second....His and Her's Hobbies in Kenosha WI is rebuilding their track. They are dumping the green carpet and installing CNC Ozite. The track will be expanded to a much larger size too. Last I heard it was going to be over 70 feet long and another 10-15 feet wider. Check out the details at their website:

For Chicago guys with limited time his and hers has open practice 7 days a week and opens at 10am until I think 9pm. It's five bucks. It's the closest place to the city if you like carpet and especially if you have free time during the week.

Kenji, Where you still gonna run Nitro/Electric at your place? I remember you said you had a parking lot somewhere in Skokie around where you worked.

ChicagoKenji,

Thanks for spreading the word!!

We do oval racing as well as touring car racing. We do 1/18, 1/12, Mini Coopers, 1/10 Pan Cars, 1/10 Touring Cars, 1/10 Winged Sprint Cars.

We run a weekly oval program that last season was on Mondays and Tuesdays and a weekly Touring program that runs Saturday evenings. Beginning this fall we will also be addind a Monthly Oval race on Sundays.

The season we just finished had 35-40 entries on the Oval and 35-40 entries on the Touring. Both shows are fast, competative and most importantly FUN! Our summer time racing does slow down considerably and car counts drop off.

We are open 6 days a week, the oval is set up on Monday and Tuesday. We are closed on Wednesdays, the oval is still up on Thursday until about 5pm at which time we take everything off the track and fly electric helicopters on until Close. The Touring course is then up Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Hours are Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri Noon to 9, Saturday 9 to 9 and Sunday 9 to 8

Practice is just $5 and race entry is $10 for the 1st and $5 for subsequent entries.

The official track dimensions will be 40'x80' on CRC Fastrack "Ozite" carpet. We plan to take the existing track down mid to late July and be back up and operational by the 1st of Aug.

If you haven't been up to see us, come on up and take a look around.

We've been stalling on the lot because the kids were busy with getting out of school and other summer stuff, but now I'll be concentrating on getting it up and running. I'm working on a new simpler track barrier system that will be quick to setup and knock down. So the answer is, "soon".

I'll let you know when.

Do you get out to any of the local tracks?

Sure thing...there's no tracks whatsoever open to the public in Chicago proper or even in close by suburbs, so the next best thing is to help promote the tracks that do exist that we city folk can get to easily. Your place is an easy drive if it's not rush hour. It's about the same amount of driving time as heading to Leisure Hours Raceway or Intense Raceway Park, from Chicago.

I know there's alot of people here who love racing. And for those who are just bashers and have never been on carpet, if they wanted to I think you rent out Mini Coopers for your Saturday race nights. Is that still happening?

Mini Coopers are a GAS to race on carpet. They are also very affordable compared to 1/10th sedans in being able to compete with others at a race. You don't need to throw a ton of money at them to be competitive. Keeping TCS rules really helps out. You can get that thrill of racing alot cheaper....

Here's an approximate 10MB WMV file of mini's racing in Europe:

Kenji, racing at your place will be Nitro and Electric?; and I would assume rubber only, no foam? Do you run what you brung or is there a limit on engine size?

It's for tuning and fun. I don't have transponders. The guys that come bring anything and everything. We run all kinds of vehicles and then a few times during the day we all put the same kind of vehicle on the track at the same time.

I was thinking about getting a simple lap scoring program and just hitting the keyboard as a car whizzes by, if we wanted to have some kind of formal racing.

I remember watching a Radio Control Hobby TV show (w/Chris Chianelli) and he had this guy from Kyosho I think who had come up with a cheap paper transponder system that used a USB interfaced loop into a laptop. I'll see if I can find some info on it.

Kenji,
I found it here. It's called the Core System. The only thing is it says it supports lanes up to 40 inches wide.

Intense Raceway Park in Dekalb just announced they will be adding Saturday night carpet racing starting July 22nd. Details to still be announced on their website. But from what I heard racing will start at 7pm.
