Going to start racing at LHR

Well i'm getting kind of tired of racing at the Parking lot races at hobbytown by my house, not all that much fun so i'm going to step it up to racing at LHR. I already got my truck almost completey set-up for offroad racing. I had 50/70 weight oil in the shocks for onroad, so i changed it out with the AE 35 weight, with silver and green springs. I was still running the retarded TQ3, so i worked out a trade with someone and got myself a Spektrum DX3, so i'll have it in about 2 weeks. Since i know LHR is a huge track and alot of guys race there, i didn't want to take the chances of my truck taking off with the TQ3, or glitch a ton, even though i have a failsafe, but don't always run it. I have a set of 40 series bowties on wabashes that i'll run on the track, since my Sporttrax's are on my e-maxx which is already sold, just waited payment. My old THS pipe was beat to hell, so i ordered a new one which will go on my revo. I'm also having my OS.18TM modded before i race, since i have no clue what other trucks i will be racing with. I just want to make my truck as fast as possible for racing. I need to pick up a gallon of Byrons Race 3000 and i need a new slipper clutch, and i should be about good to go. Can someone who races at LHR tell me what trucks i'll be up against? Thanks guys.

Practice=Screw around with every class

Race=Revo's, Savvy's,LST's,MGT's,T-Maxxes,Lightning GT's,TNX(never seen one at LHR but possible), I think that's about your competetion.


Oh and your shock oil is too thin at 35 wt IMO. 50-55 is what I ran. And orange and gold springs if you have em.

The suspension doesn't seem 2 bad with the 35 weight and the silver/green springs. I'll try it out, and if i bottom out to much i'll change it out.

I'd say your Revo will be highly competitive provided you have good tires and great servos. The next thing would be learning to set up your vehicle and practice.

I wouldn't limit myself to LH however. There's not been much in the way of racing there as of late. You really need to travel a bit to get practice racing with others. It's summer and people tend to travel a bit. We know we'll all be indoors at LH all winter.

I run a single Hitec HS-645 steering servo right now, its not the fastest servo, but it does its job. Its only temporary, my futaba pooped out on me a hobbytown so i just got this one. I'll get something better when i have my Spektrum. I hope my revo is highly competetive. I run 40 series bowties. I'll definately be racing during the winter too.

50-55 is too much for a revo outdoors IMO. That's the kind of oil you would use indoors because it's much smoother and less bumpy. Outdoors you get ruts and pits and whatnot, so thinner oil is better. You want to absorb the bumps otherwise the truck becomes very twitchy and harder to drive. 35 is what I run, along with the orange and gold springs. I also set the preload at slightly above bones level in the front and bone level in the rear.

Do not get hung up and having the fast car out there!!!! I can't stress that enough. The fastest car in the world won't do you any good if you can't drive. If you wanna go fast, practice, practice, practice.... it's the only way. Stay smooth and don't crash is the ticket. It's much easier to do with a slower motor that's easier to control than a high powered .18 or bigger motor, IMO. I should know, I was faster this last winter at indoor LH with a 2.5R than with the 18TM. I has less power, but I also made less mistakes, which more than made up for the power difference.

Also, I recommend getter a stronger servo, and putting the heavy duty servo saver spring that traxxas offers for the revo. Your steering will greaty improve. You can never have enough steering Smile.

Don't get a better servo until you get a radio with EPA's. It will stress the servo and lead to early failure.

Yeah, thats why i said i'd get a better one when i got my spektrum. 110 dollar servos aren't in anyway cheap lol!

Tune is right, its not how fast you go it really is all about consistency. You can go as fast as you want arround the track but if you crash you lose time. Slow and steady wins the race imo.
