That's a good looking shell. Have fun On-Road, we do!!

Hey, have you guys had to replace the spur gears at all? Just wondering if I should buy extras.
08-02-2005, 08:08 AM
I don't have a TC3, just HPI RS4's. The spurs are pretty tough on road cars and last pretty long. Mine took some abuse because small stones can get caught in the teeth and chews up both pinion and spur.

Nice ride Chris. What made you get a on-road ?

Just had a need for something different. Last week, when I was bashing with Bill, I tried out his TC3, and had a blast.
Also. we don't "Bash" like we used to. Everyone is racing more (On sunday's when I work), so Saturday's have been pretty much spent parking lot bashing with Bill. As for the Spur gears, RCDad, I haven't even had a chance to run it yet. The mail dropped it off as I was leaving for work yesterday. From what Firesprink said, in stock form, your gears should be ok, but if you upgrade to a higher performance motor, stock up on gears...

Shoot, if you work on Sundays that means you'll miss out racing at Tinley Park.
08-02-2005, 10:49 AM
RCDad, I looked at Tinley's website and it's old stuff. Do you have info on there current track and details? Or did you call ou there to confirm what their deal is? I would like to find out more.

Here is an email
Walt at Chicagoland Raceway Wrote:For the remainder of the summer, the Chicagoland R/C Raceway will be racing on-road every other Sunday instead of every Sunday. It would be nice if we could get enough guys here together and use the track when Walt cannot.

its not really a track. Its just cones in a parking lot they make a track outa. I think even some wood is used also with the cones.
08-02-2005, 12:43 PM
The pictures on their site lead me to think that's all it was. Not a real racing surface. I just wondered if it had been made better since 2003.
08-02-2005, 01:37 PM
Are you serious? We should just get together in a parking lot somewhere then. We can do it on Saturday so Chris can join in.
This looks a little more than cones in a parking lot though, and they say they have computerized scoring

the gears arnt hard to change. and now thet i got a new motor mount i havnt been blowing gears like i use to.
im in for a on-road bash.

I'm going to be out driving over to Munster to see a customer tomorrow morning. Maybe on the way back home I'll stop by Tinley to see if this is still the setup, because it does look pretty nice.
08-03-2005, 11:09 AM
I think on Associated's website they say the NTC3+ will go 60 out of the box.
08-03-2005, 01:00 PM
I stopped at Tinley Bowl today. The west lot, which I believe is where they run, is indeed a parking lot when they aren't using it for racing. The drivers stand and track boards are stacked outside behind the bowling center.
The surface is in pretty good shape, but does have seams and sewers, which might be covered by boards when the track is down. With a broom and blow-off is probably is a fine lot to run on, but you might want to bring all of your tuning/tire options to get traction because there is no "line" on the ground, and after Bubba gets done parking his 1978 Olds on it for Friday night leagues, it might have a little more oil and grease on it.

Dunno on the track equipment.
I couldn't see where Associated claimed a top speed on the NTC3. I know HPI "claims" 50+ on the .18SS RS4, but it's easy enough to gear for top speed over usable power delivery. CEN does that (along with a big engine) on their 73.4 mph claim. Off the line and corner to corner power is what racing needs, along with traction. Me, I LOVE open running fast driving. Maybe NascarRC oval racing is what I need. I remember seeing a high speed tri-oval track in WI somewhere and the cars were flying.

I saw a video somewhere of one top racer, he was amazing. He could hold a line on the track like he was running on rails.
