I waited about 10-15 mins and that didn't happen... But I didn't wait for all of it to dry, and I hair dryed it.

Are you painting on it right away after it seems dry?? I've always let mine sit at least overnight to fully dry (even after they turn clear) I also use a heat gun to dry in between colors...the moisture in the paint (if your using waterbased paint like Createx or Faskolor) may actually be softening up the last layer of LMF.
09-11-2006, 08:20 PM
I too have never dealt with that.
I use a heat gun in between coats. I use a brush and not a sponge and with each coat I also alternate direction of application. I do this 3-4 times. Then I cut a triangle in an area that I don't have to worry about and pull from the center. If I get it up without breaking I am good--if not it needs another coat. Since I started doing this---I have had no more LMF issues when pealing it offand it is much easier than it being to thin which sounds like you are thin. Just my thought on it

Maybe that first coat needs to be heavier, and then the rest can be thinner?

You should wait until it is all clear first before you apply the next coat. If you don't let it dry all the way and keep piling it on there will be spots that just will not dry very well. Use a hair dryer in betwwen coats but afer 3-4 and I also let it sit overnight.

the thicker the better. let each coat dry overnight or like everyone said let it turn clear before you even think of putting on the next coat. Each sucessive coat takes longer and longer to dry. I have the advantage of being able to mask say 10 bodies at once and while they are drying work on another 5 etc so it is easier for me to be patient and that the crap dry.

I do let it sit over night before I start to paint. Looks like it is thick coats and drying over night on my TC3 body.
Thanks

Ok, so start with a barely there, thin coat one day, and then slap LMF on it at 9pm the next day, go to school the next day, and do another coat before bed for 3 or 4 days?

Thanks.
I'll put up some pictures of two mini bodies I finished a little while ago tomorrow. I need to wait on the TC3 body to see where to mark the body post holes.

I use a good quality 2 1/2" paint brush (a nice one like you use for trim in a house) pour in a blob about the size of a half dollar and paint away...three nice even thick coats just like that...works great. Probably get 3-4 bodies out of a 4 oz. jar

You guys use the window masks that come with the body and LMF over them, or no masks, just lmf everywhere? Thanks.

i never use the masks even if i use the regular window lines, i hate the drips and stuff u get with those chitty masks and they never fit the lines right.
Out of a 16 oz bottle I can mask about 12 bodies with 5 coats

What size tip do you use to spray it with? (what brand are you using?) the BD that I use seems like it would be way too thick to spray.
09-12-2006, 06:38 AM
I dont spray it, I also brush it on. I use the Parma stuff but it is identical in every way to BD. one thing that is important to put the stuff on with a clean brush. The only way that i have been able to clean a brush with this crap on it is to soak it in nitro. I know it sounds crazy but it works. rinse the brush off, get all the wet mask and stuff out then just drop it in a glass or jar filled with 30% nitro and voiala. make sure to thoroughly rinse out the brush again when taking it out. I do this in between every coat and it seems like less mask gets wasted

I brushed on a decently thick coat, let it dry overnight.
Then 3 more thinner coats letting each one dry overnight. The entire LMF process took me 4 days. It peeled out and cut flawlessly though. Patience is a big thing to getting a body to come out right, if you rush things then problems arise.

That seems like a lot of effort for a brush.
I buy the 88 cent ones ands throw them out. In between coats I wrap it up and reuse it again and I get no goober and crud in the LMF. I also pour out of the bottle into a cup so I don't contaminate the bottle. With the amount of bodies you do that is. I have used Parma and BD. The BD IMO peals much easier.

I rinse out my brush with hot water right away and it stays clean.
09-12-2006, 02:58 PM
Yeah, I agree. I just rinse it out with water. I use a good quality paint brush also (Purdy brand) these hold up well and don't shed. I've tried a few brands of LMF but stick with the BD...works the best for me. I've done 3 coats in one day...or three coats spread out over three consecutive days...seems to work the same either way.
