I know. I could understand if it was a "mascot" like the cleveland indians or washington redskins and was running the sidelines with a hatchet. This is different. He is dressed in tradition clothing and does an exagerated version of several combined dances. (So that they can be seen basically.) There is always the utmost respect payed toward the symbol, not the mascot. The Chief was a symbol that brought everyone together at the games. No matter what a shiver went down your spine every time he came out, even though you knew he was coming. It's going to be different now. If they are going to get rid of the Chief they might as well do away with the fighting irish for portraying the irish culture that way. I really cannot believe they went through with it. Absolutely pathetic and depressing. Strange mood down here. :-(
