I think Chrysler will relent. Afterall, as much as we love the halo from the stock cars. Its what we can do to the stock cars that we remember years down the line. Anytime I talk to someone who was into muscle cars in the 50s, 60s, and early 70s all they talk about when you bring a car up is how they bought one and then what happened when they modded it.
I think the LS7 is an amazing engine for making 505hp and 30mpg which lets it slide under the gas guzzler tax. GM stuck a baby cam in it, so I can imagine a much larger duration camshaft making some serious power. I imagine if they go all out with a cam for a race engine and don't concern themselves with durability the LS7 may possibly begin to rival GM's 2.2 small block NASCAR motors.
