I was told that same thing when I got my first & it is true for most people.
The only thing I would add (or comment on) is there isn't anything wrong with wall flash as long as you thoroughly think it through. There are alot of nice designs that can be incorporated into themes later on, but if at any point you decide to get more work done, it will be important to have made smart choices to begin with. All of my work is completely original & designed by me. This was a choice I made because I didn't want to see someone with my same tattoo. One piece is a cover up that I designed to eliminate my first tattoo (wall flash with no thought behind it )
A good rule of thumb is to really think about what you want...hang onto that idea for about a year & if you still want it just as bad, your set. I'd recommend younger guys to keep any work in areas that can be covered up if need be. Hand & neck tattoos are not always acceptable in professional careers.
