You've got some amazing boaters in the Windy City area that do know their shit. I've found out the hard way that if you want to seriously race boats and think that you're bad, come over there and go head-to-head with the boys (and girls!) in your neck of the woods. I've had my ass handed to me a on platter over more than a few times!
I've raced at the old Silver Springs State Park pond, the old Illini Powerboaters pond off Caton Farm Road in Joliet and the forest preserve SW of O'Hare (Ida Lake).
http://www.impba4.com is the site for race info and http://www.intlwaters.com is a boat forum site that its Admin, Tom Moorehouse lives in a Chicago 'burb.
I miss racing in your area but I hate the drive as I-94 gets really insane on the weekends. We get a lot of people from Illinois that come this way then and have to head home on Sunday nights. I've come home from races and was happy that I wasn't westbound as I've seen traffic backed up for over 5 miles with people standing outside their cars!
I'll stop in here and see if I can help some of you out with boating questions. I'm mostly into nitro small-blocks, .45 and under.
Go check out an area boat race sometime if you already haven't. Grab a picnic lunch, some chairs and don't be afraid to talk to the boaters as they are generally a good bunch of people.
