Well, my 528xr finally gave up the ghost last night. How it happened I'm not quite sure. I've been having some brake issues with my single speed conversion on my Hyper One Seven. Sometimes the brakes would just lock up completely. Like someone jammed a steel pipe in the spokes of a bike wheel.
I think at some point during the night when we were racing at the parking lot the clutch nut backed off, and caused the clutch bell to bind onto the crank shaft. Since we never come to a stop, and we really don't slow down all that much I didn't notice.
Well, while the CB was locked up, the brakes did their binding bit, and I think the sudden stop was enough to snap the con-rod. (lets be real, this motor was purchased used, and had a few gallons on it before I put another 9 gallons on it.
So here is the damage. You can see where the crank hit the conrod after it snapped.

It also took a chunk out of the piston skirt too.
The entire engine is a write off, the bearings no longer spin freely, the mounting tabs have had a crack in them for ages now. So the only thing good on the engine is the cooling head. Everything else is a total write off because of the cost of the parts to fix it.
However, this is just the reason I need to convert to a 5s LiPo setup for the Hyper One Seven now. alute:
Alas poor Rossi, I knew him well.
