Mr. Tune Wrote:how new is the computer? What make and model is it? Many new computers don't come with dvds or cds, they have a hidden partition on the hard drive with an image of the os as it shipped from the factory so you can restore it to like new condition in 20 minutes or less.
It doesn't have those. I did work on his computer a month ago, the original hard drive toasted itself so I replaced the drive. I didn't have any of the OEM cds so I installed a fresh copy of XP professional.
Its a P3 900 or close to it. Needs more ram, I've been meaning to give him some 256meg sticks as it only has 128 now and I didn't have any laying around when I was working on it before.
Rob, if it drives you that nuts bring it friday, I'll wipe/upgrade it with some more memory. I didn't have time to install all of the usual proggies but I can this time around. I can also take a gander at cleaning it as well and not having to go through the format.
If you want i can post HijackThis and walk you through the options over the phone. HijackThis can definitely clean any spyware/adware out of the system, I also have a corporate edition of Symantec so I can install that too. I'll bring some software for it on friday.
