my first "kit" was a Kyosho pegasus, it broke the first day i ran it, it had a metal antenna<<<< LMFAO, i jupmed it, it landed wrong, snapped antenna and took off and smashed a wall @ full speed with a mabuchi rs-380 motor.LOL, I was as crushed as the car 
then I got a real car and my brother and I raced @ R&R hobby here in quincy, I had an rc10 2wd mod car, and a kyosho mid engine optima 4wd mod car, I ran all race prep and wimpy hand wound mods, Futaba magnum junior and Airtonics xl2p radios, Tekin esc's and peak charger, I dont remember what brand matched cells i ran, they were like 1200 mah though, I do remember that much, and they were high $ but mom was kicking down hard loot for me and my brother....LOL
