The Hybrid system may boost the overall vehicle MPG, but only if people drive them efficiently.
I guess I appreciate the engineering effort to produce a truck that is big and can get mileage comparable to a sedan that doesn't have a Hybrid system. That's a plus. The cost of that vehicle will be a premium, as are all hydrids.
I haven't seen any facts about the Cadillac hybrid proposed for the Escalade, but USUALLY the system uses a smaller gas engine, coupled with the electric drive, so HP will probably not be Northstar V8 levels.
In the end, the owners have to weigh if the cost of owning the hybrid vehicle is offset by less fuel costs. The lower emissions part is nice too.
I like the approach GM and Dodge are using to shut down 1/2 of the V8's they put in the Impala SS and the Charger Hemi (both around 320hp). Still gives mid 20's on the highway, with out needing the hybrid system.
