Those kives or guns wont help one bit if you cant have it rdy to use at a moments notice. I would try not to let you I was going to mug you. Id try to be as quick and stealthy as possible. Fumbling for a gun in a case or looking for a knife in a car or even tring to pull somthing from your inside jacket pocket is taking too long to respond to an attack. Be aware. Get yourself a spitfire pepper sprayer, and train with it. Pepper spray is legal to carry and can be used at a good distance. AT 10 feet your attacker will have more to worry about than your money for atleast a good 10 min. Plenty of time to get away.
I do think people should be able to carry, most wont have the ability to use it if needed but atleast if the criminals know the old lady has one in her purse he'll think twice.
