Still too nice a bike to lock up on a college campus. Locked bikes are targets. You want a bike that you can leave unlocked and no one will touch.
When I was at SIU they had "community" bikes that were basic, functional bikes that a group (I forget who) fixed up. They sprayed them dayglo orange and pink and just put them out in bike racks around campus. If you saw one you could just take it and ride it. The only rule was you couldn't lock them. This plan cut down on the number of bike "thefts" by people just looking for a ride. Worked great.
