I didn't get second I should have...but I stalled out...err, I mean.... overheated! I got it back up and running and finished in third 2 laps down.
In the first heat I blew a rear diff and sheared the pin that holds the one of my rear hex in place and only ran 3 laps. I got if fixed up and ran the second heat good (QTing 3rd spot), but when I checked the temps after my run it was 390! I knew it sounded wierd when I was running it. I found the entire area where the header connected to the block was all black. Took of the header and the rubber was all tore up. Got a new one from Sonny O (thanks sunny!) and prepared for a fun battle with tex in the amain qualifying right behind him. I guess the damn car was overheating again somehow (air leak i'm assuming) and stalled out around the 11 minute mark or so. Thanks to bruce (satoch) for having a spare plug on hand to put in my truck and get me back out on the racetrack. Alas it was too late and I only turn 23 laps. I think gabe won with 25.
The hellfire on the other hand....nothing but bad luck today. Ran great during practice and suddenly flamed out early in my first head. Hmm, run downstair to get it fired back up, SIEZED! WFT! Only half a gallen, maybe, on that motor. Took it apart to check it out and it blew out a bearing. There are pieces of broken bearings scarring up the whole block and wedging themselfs in there causing the crank to no longer turn over. Needless to say, this one is going back to HPI. Thanks to Jon Bonie for loaning me his XTM24.7 ! Without messing with the needles) and ran out and got the truck running and ran a full 2nd qual. Not too bad, but motor was super rich. Leaned that sucker out and got it ready for the b main in umt. I was running okay but at the half way mark the steering got proggresively worse after every lap. I ran a few more laps and pulled it in to the pits. It got too hard to drive. I did a quick inspection and I think I may have fried a servo (it's almost brandnew too!). I wonder if hitec will warranty that thing?
All in all, I was plagued with problems today. The only good news was that I'm now a happy new owner of an EBModded BS21 and TTR pipe (for the hellfire) courtesy of Joe T (hagasan).
See you all next week, hopefully!
