What I do is make my own too---when I buy CD's this is one of the first things I do and then I make a duplicate of it. Then the original gets put away and I can trash the copies all I want never ruining the originals. Remake them as needed.
I also trade the MP3's and download full songs where ever possible and make my own album collection.
I use WINAMP that I had bought to do this with.
I started this because about 6 years ago my car was broke into and I had over 8K in my cd collection stolen and many were out of print- Then I was just starting to make the MP3's---what I did make--became the only copies I had.
Sucked cuz insurance does not cover it all---only one or two cd's. Killer was I just has an alarm installed and it never went off---I went back to the installer and with a 30 day dispute I got my money back. Quick long story short---now I don't car if they get stolen
