Freddy, I guess I was responding more to Mr Tunes original thread question about what types of electric on-roads the board members run, not so much as commenting on your discussion with Tex.
I do agree, though, that you can get better radio gear if you build from kit vs. RTR. If you just want the basics, you can't beat the volume purchasing power of the manufacturer when it comes to the stock RTR radios. If you are ever going to upgrade, do it the first time you build it. It's like upgrading a computer monitor; once you do it, what do you do with the old one? You never get your money back out of it.
