Actually, the stock savage tires hook up pretty good on most surfaces. They aren't used for racing I don't think because of the tall side wall. It makes it more likely to roll over instead of slide in the turns.
I run on loose gravel/dirt, grass and pavement. It tends to get a little squirrelly on the loose stuff, but on hard pack, concrete and grass, it grips pretty good.
