I took some side cutters and cut off a good portion of the tread bars that I was going to shave down. then I went at it with a dremel I think using a coarse sanding drum if I remember. Also it helps to take a black marker to mark the ones you are going to cut just to be sure you don't screw up and cut off the worng one. Also you don't have to dremel them down until they are smooth. you and also just dremel them a little and have a shallower tread bar then a full bar or half bars... ect.
Also if you cut off every other bar the tires make a lot mroe noise on the pavement. Like a cool rumbling howling sound!
