New to RC again

Well I used to race a 10th scale, left turn only, pan car on carpet. Then the place I would go to went under so the car has been sitting in the attic for about 10+ years now. Its in peices, and it's to low to run on the street. The car was made by the same people that make the rc10t. Which I had one of but sold. Both of which were electric. I would like to get back into rc cars again, my buddy got me into these xmod things and I started messing around with them. Fun, but it like a gateway drug it's leading me to big and better things. which brings me to my piont. I'd like to buy a on raod car, 1/10 th scale or larger, nitro, not electric. Something and can tear around a parking lot with or race on a road course if one happens to pop up. What should I buy? where should I look? I live about 5 time from als hobby shop, and I've also noticed that most car come assembled. Why? When I bought cars you'd have to build then yourself.

Also I don't know much about nitro car, or nitro at all. Is there anyone in the area (elmhurst, villa park, lombard) that has somehting like this that they'd like to do alittle schooling on? Thanks in advance.
