FOM is the principle behind golf club companies releasing new "and better" clubs every year. If you can't hit last years clubs, are this year's gonna be an improvement....UNLESS, the new clubs (or truck/buggy) is a departure in design and construction.
Is the Kyosho STR different from the Hellfire...hell yeah, and that's why it costs way more too!
Some budgets don't permit jumping into the deep end right away...hence RTR's. Then when they decide (pick a class) is right for them, they invest in a better machine.
Is the new GT2 a better truck than the old GT? Sure, but it doesn't mean the old truck is no good. It just means you have choices. More money, new truck. Less money, old truck.
There will always be people who have the resources to upgrade, needed or not. The same is true for lots of things, not just RC.
