Avatar format questions
#1
OK, So I got a hi-rez photo of my Revo and I'd like to use it as my Avatar picture. Of course when I try to add it I am told it's too big to use and there is a 100x100 max size or something like that. This is fine, but what do I need to do to fix my picture to the standards? Thanks - DaveB

that doesn't teach people how to do things....just doing it for him.

If someone that knows how to do it could post up here about how to resize or compress pictures that would be great. Then a bunch of people could benefit from this thread.

I usually use Myimager.com CLICK HERE

Near the top of the page, there are a group of drop down windows.

First, click on the dropdown arrow by "File" then click "open"

You can upload from your computer or from the internet.

Once your picture is uploaded, click the Drop down arrow by "Edit" then resize.

The forum limit is 100x100.

After the picture is re-sized, save it to your computer. (You can't link to it from their page)

Then use your pic host of choice (or upload to the Chitownrc gallery) and use that url to link to your avatar.

Good Luck

Open the image in an any image manipulation software that allows you to change image size. Either set the crop to be constrained (fixed) at 100x100 pixels or change the images size so that it's longest dimension is 100 pixels, that means if the image is a horizontal format the horizontal width will be 100 px and the height will be shorter. Than save it in the JPEG or GIF format.

The maximum 100 pixels thing is important when you use the resizer. If your original is a horizontal orientation, the 100 pixel limit has to be the width. If your original is tall, like Pop's avatar, the max 100 pixel will be the height.
That Myimager site is E-Z to use. And you don't need any extra softwarz on your system to use it.

But it looks like you allowed the resized image to be "stretched" to fit 100x100. You can select for it to retain it's original LxW ratio.

FYI, for avatars, you don't need any hosting. You can upload an avatar image right from your computer to use for these forums.

That's good info. Some forums require you to have a pic host for avatars, which makes it a little more difficult for some people.

Also, I almost forgot. Avatars can be 120 x 120.

And now, a little inside tip for you guys Smile...

The gallery here autogenerates thumbnail pics when you upload an image. That thumbnail just so happens to have the same size restrictions as the avatars. So with that said, all you have to do is upload a pic into the gallery here. Save the thumbnail it generates to your computer and reupload it as your avatar. No external software needed. Smile.

Sometimes a forum will allow "wide screen" avatars, but will make you host them elsewhere so you dont eat up bandwidth and server space on the forum.

I don't know if what I did is called stretching it, but I tried one thing and it came out to be like 130-100. Then I switched it and it came out 100-100.
