I love my NovaRossi .28 for brutal power and good reliability.. a distant second (as far as power) are the .247's.

picco .26 outlaw is another good bang for buck even though some are hard to tune. I've heard they are hit or miss with the carbs that come with them.

I'm never spending over $200 on another engine ever but if I do find a good deal on an engine I'm all over it. Tex is right on.. I picked up that NR .28 on ebay for $175 NIB. If it was regular price I would not have even looked at it. I totally agree with you though, a $300 engine better be way faster than a $140 engine.
