which fuel?
#1
ok so most of you know that im getting the traxxas 3.3 engine. I thought that i had the best fuel picked out for the engine but i guess i didnt. when i was talking to one of the employees at LH he was saying that the Trinity Platinum 30% is no good. i thought it was a good fuel but he said that it only has 8% oil in it and that the motor will burn up in a few gallons. is he right or should i just forget what he said and run the fuel. he also stated that Byrons is a better fuel b/c it has more oil (12%) and it still has 30% i would like to run the traxxas 33% only because it is guaranteed for my new motor. can anyone help me with my dilemma?

I do think that Traxxas will only warranty the motor if you use their fuel (Top Fuel). Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Byrons isn't better because it has 4% more oil than Trinity. If more oil is better, then run 10%. I wouldn't worry about the 4% difference if you are already using the Trinity and know how to tune.

yes you are supposed to run traxxas to keep the warranty but theres no way they can tell if your using there fuel.. actually i have only run trinty 20% and 25% so i dont know how to tune the fuel....

im not sure about which fuel you should use, but i have heard that a lot of the fuel that is made in the states doesnt uses less fuel than everywhere else, and that is what someone said was causing the O.S. .18 to burn out so quickly? but hey just rumors as far as i know anybody tried the werks fuel?

I use platinum 30%.....great fuel IMO

I only had it overheat, because it was too lean, but other then that time it has been fine for me.

it also gives more horsepower IMO

if you run this fuel then make sure you have a temp gun because when I over heated, it didnt act like it was too lean and the temp. was 315.
in my 2.5 it runs strong between 225-260

how many gallons have you ran through?

ask that guy if he ever used that fuel and if so then ask him what the temps where.

if it was a customer who told the hobby guy that it will burn up your motor---then how would he know if it was not overheating?

also I was in there and my diff case was a little stripped where the screw wasnt tightening and I said I would just put a bigger screw in. and he said no that wouldnt work:crazy: and that i needed to buy a new diff case.

so see some hobby guys are out to get your money and some dont know what they are talking about

Trinity platinum 30% is good stuff. That's what I use. Aint nothing wrong with 8% oil IMO. I've got no problems with my motors. Well, except for the ones that break no matter what fuel you run, lol.

well I have 4 gallons of 20% top fuel and 1/3 of platinum 30%.....

I will tell you how many gallons of platinum I get before she blows.

Don't worry about what he said. There are a few people here who run trinity platinum, and have had no problems. There are also a few who run White Lightning (Also 8% oil) and have had no problems, myself included. I've been running 40% WL for almost 2 years, through a few different R/C's, and have never had an engine wear prematurely. The Engine longevity isn't determined by the fuel, it depends on how well it is tuned.

As for the Traxxas Waranty, they say they will only waranty the engine if you run Top Fuel, but unless you tell them, there is really no way to tell. (Unless you run Blue Thunder fuel, which has been known to dye the engine internals Blue)

Cool sweet thats one less trip to lh this week. now the wait for the 3.3. lol it feels like its been months since ive last driven.

you should be asking yourself how well can I tune a motor...At 8% oil there is little room for error. The higher oil content fuels are better for people that are not tunning experts.

I use Odonnels 30%(which also dyes the motor yellow/gold) with great success. Once tuned, I rarely turn a needle and use the same plugs for what seems like forever on my motors. I would also try Byrons, have herd good things, but I like to tune my motor by sound/performance and I cant hear it well enough at the track, Soooo I stick with whats worked for me.

Yep MX that's about the only way I can tune too is by performance/sound...Temp tuning just doesn't work for me.

I ran Trinity Platinum 30% for over 2 years with great success. I also used hot plugs the entire time. My motors have great life.

I recently switched to WL 30% because I got a good deal on a gallon and it also seems to be good fuel.

My choice for the 3.3 would be Platinum 30%, then TRX 33%

only fuel ive run on the list is 33% so that got my vote. Really any 30% fuel is good, just a matter of your preference.

so i had to switch from the bump version to the p/s version b/c they werent shipping the non pullstart ones yet. if i cut the nub thing off the crank will it throw the motor off balance? and what are your opinions about the larger flywheel?
Reply
#24
yes, you can cut the crank, take your time and do it slowly. The larger flywheel helps with starting on the starter box but I believe the stock flywheel also works fine.
