I was looking into getting an exhaust for my GTI. (I want a performance exhaust... high flow, minimal bends, no ricer fart pipe.) To get a nice turbo back exhaust it looks to be about $1000 to $1300. I can save about $700-$800 if I buy the tubing, muffler, high flow cat, and welding wire seperate. The problem is that I don't know how to weld stainless. Is anyone on here a good stainless welder that would be willing to help??

I have welding experience and would recommend tig welding your pipes. You can use a Mig but the Tig weld will give the best appearence and will lay down a nice weld for a clean looking exhaust job. There are also different grades of stainless piping. T-304 is the best quality but is the most expensive. T-409 is a softer metal but will offer the same results. T-304 is double the cost of T-409. T-409 will eventually rust even though it's stainless.

Yeah.... that is the thing. I have mig welded before but am not confident enough to do an exhaust... especially since I know tig is the better method. I have never tig welded. (Hey I can braze though!! LoL)

Tig imho is a little harder than mig. But the results are 10 times better. I have done tig but not enough to think I could do a full exhaust system.

I've fabricated complete custom headers and exhaust pipes and even built my own chambered mufflers. I have MIG & TIG experience but no access to equipment. You could also tack weld everything together and take the assembly somewhere to have the seams TIG welded. Or you could easily MIG them together and clean up everything afterwards and have decent results.

I own both a tig and a Mig welder and could do the welding for you if your serious. You cut the pipes and tack everything together and I'll weld it for you. When I'm done it will look like I took a row of quarters and layed them to the side. You'll be very happy with my craftmanship. PM me if your serious and I'll figure what kind of deal I could give you.

I will see if I can get some tubing together along with possibly a downpipe and muffler. I don't think I want to fab a downpipe but the exhaust I think Ican handle. I would have no problem tacking it and would probably keep it in 2 parts or so then. I will see what I can get together and then I will get ahold of you. Thanks a bunch for offering up your servies. I would pay you what you think is fair for your time. I just think I will be happier and have a better result this way...
