Hi all, I have a problem with my dual tank mod. I just installed it so I'm not sure what it is supposed to do specifacally, but I was under the impression that the small tank fills completely mine didn't and it seemed that the engine was using fuel faster than the 2 oz tank could replenish it'self from the main tank. This caused leaning bad. It does not seem like it is feeding enough gas into the small 2oz tank. Any ideas? I have it connected in this fashion (i'll start at the carb and work my way back to main tank):
1. Carb to fuel filter.
2. fuel filter to pickup in 2oz hayes tank.
3. vent on hays 2oz tank to pickup on main tank
4. vent on main tank to pipe.
I'm not sure y this is going on but any help would be appreciated.

well make sure you have all the lines hooked up right. The first tank tank should go to the carb from the regular nipple. The pressure nipple on the first tank should be getting fuel from the second tank so put a fuel line from the first tanks pressure nipple to the 2nd tanks fuel nipple. Then from the exhaust put the fuel line from the 2nd tanks pressure nipple to the exhaust. That should work for your and make sure to add some fuel filters in there cuz i heard it helps pressurize the system to keep it a steady flow.

The fuel filter on the pressure line is to "equalize" the flow of pressure to the tank, in turn causing less air bubbles in the fuel tank.
As for the dual tank mod... If your small tank is not filling completely, this may be the reason it empties faster than the large tank can fill it. Also, your engine may be running too rich. this will cause less pressure in the fuel line, and quicker fuel consumption from the 2nd tank.

1.) Make sure your output on the header tank(to carb) is higher than the carb.
2.) you on;y need 1 fuel filter. from header tank to carb.
3.) Its sounds like you have it hooked up correct. Pressure line from exhaust to pressure port on main tank. Main tank feed, to top pressure port on header (must be on top) then clunk (main output) on header to filter then to carb.
4.) It is a little bit of a pain to fill header, this is how I did it. I filled main tank. Then I crimped fuel line just before carb. Then I took pressure port of main tank, and I had a long piece of fuel tube I stuck on and blew into it. This will fill the header tank to just about 3/4 of the way. You may have to open main tank lid every now and then to relieve pressure from blowing.
Let me know if this does or doesn't help. If it doesn't can you take a pic and poet it so I can look at it.

That is pretty much how I had mine except it faced the other way. Your output is higher than carb right. I just wondering if you have to much fuel line (losing pressure over the length) also did you check for holes in any of your fuel line.

I'll play with the leangth... The only piece of tubing that is not brand new is the preasure line from th pipe but i'll replace that too.... I'll let you know as soon as I get to drive it....

Interesting thing I found yesterday I took off the second tank and it seems that there is something up with my fuel tank or I have a air leak somwhere else because the leaning continues. I'll keep you posted.. Thanks guys...

A good test for your tank to check for air leaks. Take tank off. Put a small piece of fuel tubing on the outlet and plug it with an allen key. Then run a longer fuel tube from the pressure port. Submerge tank in sink or bucket and then blow in fuel line. If you see air bubbles then it leaks and you need a new tank.

Well... I verified no leaks in fuel tank, solid as a rock. I disassembled my engine, cleaned and rebuilt making sure that backplate and Carb are well sealed. Still same problem the only thing left is the exaust system so time for a pipe and header. If anyone has an old working stock pipe/header for a Savage I'd be willing to buy it for testing and if it is the problem I'll get a nicer pipe.

Well turns out that a new main tank took care of the leaning problem so I can start testing the dual tank mod soon. Thanks for all your help guys. I also learned that having the slipper set too loose will result in a spur with a melted middle... hehehe... The leaning problem though was fixed with a new tank so the filter inside the tank was clogged I wish they didn't do that filter in tank bit but..... oh well. Like I said thanks for all your help guys. and Merry Christmas and all the other holidays.
