Bruce Mr. Satoch I think what you do not realize is that this is gonna be the baddest-azz outdoor track that no one else can compare to and picking apart silly little varaibles that "YOU" think may pose a problem for "YOU" is only a waiste of time, especially on this forum. That being said, good luck to Bernie and his crew at L.H. and I cant waite to race that sweet looking track. I said it before and i will say it again...BERNIE IS THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Bernie. Your long hours will pay off.

The only thing funnier than this arguement will be the sight of a truck dangling from the fence while the driver cranks the wheel back and forth trying to get a marshall's attention! It's gotta happen sometime. Shoot, people get hit by lightning don't they?

Well make fun of my suggestions if you all must but in 6 months you'll see the need. Just like the numbered cones.

Hardesty's has nice white walls on the far side of the track that helps one see their vehicle better from a distance. That might've been an option also.

Next, the hoops are a good idea. They would work better if they were of a heavier guage, longer and have barbs on the shaft to keep them securely in the ground.

Flame away....

this is one of those things were you should becarefull what you ask for. Bernie dont let the negative people get ya bummed out. Your doing an awesome job. So far your making everyone but 1 person happy so keep at it.

Michowski, it's not that I'm unhappy. I just see an area that could be improved. And I'm most certainly not the only one who doesn't care for the hoops that keep pulling out of the ground. I'm the only one with enough balls to speak up. It's gotta get old for those maintaining the track to have to unbend and pound in hoops all of the time.

And Rob Kass, it's attention to these "silly little variables", as you say, that makes a big difference. BTW, who are you?

The hoops are only a problem for them who can't stay in the lanes. And I hope you are not taking credit for the number cone. I had them at the old track just took some time to find good ones for the new track.

Yeah... Sorry B.E. Numbered cones have been around for a long time...

... You know if Bern had put in walls you'd complain that they would be a breakage hazard to your r/c's...

And as for barbed wire... Dude that couldnt of sounded like a good idea to even youu bro! LOL!!! I dont think any insurance company or property owner in his/her right mind would want the possiblity of someone snagging an ankle on a piece of half burried, rusted barbed wire!:flamer:

Bernie, I knew you would use that tired old line about staying in the lane. Face it, everyone hits a tube now and then, even you Bernie. And when it happens they shouldn't get a damned hoop stuck in their A-Arm. Better hoops are the answer.

Next, of course numbered cones are old news. So why did it take 3 months for them to show up?

Rocco, barbed wire? What are you talking about? I said a hoop with barbs on it to help prevent them from pulling out of the ground.

And no Rocco, I wouldn't complain about nice white walls lining the track. They were great at Hardesty's. They were even capped with 6" diameter yellow tubing. Nice touch.

Why can't someone mention things seen at other tracks that work well without most of you taking it as an attack or a complaint?

arent hoops made of wire??? So hoop (wire) + Barbs ( like you suggested) = barbed wire.... Yeah i cant imagine how i came up with that one!

Bruce its fine to make comments but there are more than one way to run a succesful r/c race track.... Not all need to be cookie cutters.

And... And old LH had numbered cones, i remember them. It probaly took 3 months to get them because they were working on keeping you happy with fresh track layouts, stocked snack machines , under driver stand lighting and some of the other lil things that make LH soooo sweeet! I think numbered cones were the last things they were worried about

Alright Rocco, try to envision this. 3/8" diameter steel rod stock that has had both ends smashed in a press to flatten it. Then those flattened ends are cut into a point like an Indian arrowhead or barb. Then you bend the center of that rod stock to the diameter of the plastic pipe. You also make sure that the hoop penetrates the earth at least 9" so that it won't pull out so easy.

I apologize for not including a drawing with my post.

And you are quite right that there is more way to achieve a given objective as it pertains to running a track. However, certain things work better than others. This is fact. Why can't these little refinements be stated/suggested without fear of being chastised?

Bruce thanks for that... I think i knew what you meant without the sarcasm. I still dont think sharp barbed ends would be a bright idea... What if one was to get pulled out by someone who keeps riding the pipes.. ... Do you think that a sharpned rusty arrowhead would be a good idea?

I do agree that maybe if they were longer they would stay in better but thats up to the man....

... Besides... i thought there wasnt going to be pipes outside, just grass infields???

stay in your lane, never crash, always have a perfect tune, never break parts, and you'll be just fine. Its that simple people. Geez Wink

Yes Rocco, I think a rusty sharpened arrowhead is a great idea. Get real!

Once again, it's obvious that you're simply being argumentative as a hobby.

As for outdoor, you know there's going to be tubes. Hopefully with new and improved hoops to hold them in place.

no im not, i agreed with you... I said if they were longer they might stay in better... But then again i dont know how your gonna manage to drive a 3/8th inch wire 9 inches into the ground without bending it to sh1t....

no tubes are outside....

gonna be great that you car wont be in the shadows of a tube.

best idea yet.

Rocco, the 5/16" or 3/8" pointed/barbed, but not sharpened, hoops would be driven into the ground exactly as they are now-with that 2"x6" that has the curve cut in it. It'll work fine.

Slim, I hope you're right but I see a lot off tubing laying out there.

I thought that was the old stuff from when they re-did the track.... But there was alot of new black pipe...

How about this; lets see how everything works out before we tear it down lol One thing I know is that Bernie and crew always make changes if something isn't working but damm let's give it a try first before destroying it!!! IMO the track is looking FANTASTIC!!! Keep up the good work.

Ok Bruce. It was less then two months to get the cones. Try to find soccer cones in the middle of winter. all we could find was them slotted things with no room to put a number. we got the ones we have now on line. they are heavy duty and stand up well. well worth the wait.
Hoops. yes longer hoops are in the future. The ones I have are short because the old track had concert floors. maybe before nexts winter for the indoor racing. I have been getting prices and the best so far is 2.50 a three foot lenght. I need 200 hoops. right now I can use that money for the lights we want outside. right now I don't feel it's at big of a deal. I want the out side tracks up and running. I don't like the idea of flatting the ends because if, if its was to pull out and some hooked their foot damn I shake thinking about it.I feel it would be a safe thing.
Hardesty's IS a damn nice track and the white walls look great and yes its will keep the cars and trucks inside the walls...... well maybe there will be at one crash that the car goes over. I hope my track is as nice as theirs. But Bruce I don't want to have a track that is boxed in. I like the feel of being in the open Like the rock pile. I don't think they have walls at all. And the rock pile is a very nice track also. I want the feeling of racing across the open field. no tubes to hit. just a grassy infield.
Bruce like you said you new I would use that tried old line of staying the the lanes I new if I posted some pic of track to show we are working on it. even if it's not done. that you would have to pick it apart. You always do. you could wait until it was done and see what it is before picking it apart. this track will be a work in progress for about two year before we will be done the way we want it
