how do i keep my x running?
#1
hey, just got my savvy x and ill tell you what's happened so far
my dad decided that i could drive it before 8th grade graduation..YAY
so i went to start it and the roto start stripped its gears
nobiggie, so we try to start it with a dril, but it wasn't powerful enough to spin the motor fast
so we got a drill for the compressed air thing and it started the motor up, but then every time (prolly about 7 ot 8) the motor died after it moved maybe 5-10 feet
anybody know why it's dieing? it dies when i briefly let off the throttle to take off the glowignitor
and which way to i turn the idle screw (in or out) to make the truck roll slower?

thanks!!

Too lean, or idle not adjusted would be my guess.

do you think the idle is set too fast? i didn't even touch the gas and it was rolling at a slow jog speed
so what way do i turn the idle to make is slower?

Turn the idle out to make it slow down.

Is it got alot of smoke, or little to none?

I don't think it is your idle if it takes off without hitting the throttle, but I might be wrong.

Check the amount of smoke like Revo2k said. If there isn't a lot, richen the LSN some.

This is a common thing with Savages out of the box. The idle is actually set too low, and when you hit the brakes, it is actually closing the carb too much, killing the engine. Also, if it is dying out while on throttle after about 5-10 ft, it is probably too rich.

FIRST adjust your throttle linkage. Let the throttle trigger (on the radio) sit at neutral, and look at the linkage on the carb. Apply the brakes, and make make sure the linkage doesn't move. If it does, adjust your trim on the radio till the throttle doesn't move when going from neutral to brake on the radio. THEN adjust your idle. The initial idle settings may change a bit once it is broken in.

AFTER the linkage is checked and adjusted, you can start to tune the engine. If it is the first time it is being run, it will be really rich for break-in. IF at idle, the engine bogs and sputters out, slightly lean the Low speed needle (on the throttle arm). IF the RPM's climb and then the engine dies, slightly richen the Low speed needle. When you start driving the truck, watch for a steady stream of smoke from the exhaust. If there is no smoke, or inconsistant smoke from the exhaust, and the engine sounds erratic, the High speed (Where the fuel line leads into the carb) needle is too lean. If there is a LOT of smoke, and the engine is having trouble getting up to speed, the High speed needle is too rich.

To lean = turn clockwise
To richen = turn counter clockwise

Another thing to check, if the engine consistantly dies when you pull off the ignitor, the plug may be bad. replace the glow plug.
I'll keep my God, my freedom, my guns, and my money. You can keep "THE CHANGE."

Newguy got it. My Savage 25 had the same things going on. Once I fixed the linkage, then I could properly tune it.

well i got tank one complete, but now im tryin to do tank 2 and the damn thing won't start again
and it's making very weird noises when i spin the motor...nothin like it sounded like before
so i checked for it being flooded and it wasn't, i dont know why it won't start

Glow plug ok still?
Are all your fuel lines still connected properly?
Is your pipe still connected at the coulplings and tight up against the exhaust manifold port on the back of the engine?
Did you accidently switch the direction of the drill you are using to start it?
If you haven't broke anything your not bashin' hard enough!!!!:

took it to the lhs, there was a minor air leak, the head had 1 screw that was about 1/4 turn loose, kept me from starting it
but now i got bigger issues, the one way stripped out so i replaced it and now the starter shaft is broken
so we ordered a sts 28 to drop in there instead, this'll be fuN!! can't wait to fire 'er right up

thanks for the help

omg...what's with my badluck
i got the sts, got it all cleaned and ready to be run
got it hooked to the car, finally got gas through the line
it started and died after about 5 seconds so i leaned it out a little bit, tried to start it again and the pullstart broke
so now i got a couple new pulllstarts on the way and an impeller
i tried recoiling the pullstart, and on the 3rd try i got it in there, pulled the cord and it didn't retract Sad
so ill try again tonight and then again tomorrow
and if i still don't get it ill just wait for the new ones to come

but can anybody comment on the quality of nova clutch shoes? i plan to pick some up for the sts
thanks

yeah dirtguy stick with it like rocco said, i in the beginning had to call the hobby store so many times to get parts and see if they had them because I would fix it and after like 1 tank another thing would bream............that was a t-maxx though.

now i got a revo and i have put a little over 1 gallon on it and it hasnt broken yet.....not even a spur gear. the glow plug was fine but i changed it anyways because it started to get hard to start, so i have only spent $4 on repair.....besides gas of course

ur pulling it out too far, i think, its not like a lawnmower. Short quick pulls work the best....god are my words gonna get twisted around! lol

Or you could SLOWLY pull it all the way out to know how long not to pull the cord.

well one of them broke b/c i puled too far, but the other one went half way out and got stuck and then just....snapped i guess
and i took it apart and the spring was split in two
so we took it to hte lhs w/ the last ps we had on it, and they got it running after....about 30+ minutes of tinkering w/ it, so we idled it through the first tank and brought it home, where we got it to start but it died immediatly
so some time later my dad figured he'd give it a try, so we heat it up and he pulls it a couple times and it's about to fire up, all if would take was one more pull so he rips the cord as hard as he can (cuzz he's smart) and the cord just omes shooting out at him
Smile

so i ordered a backplate and 2 more ps's, so hopefully the roto will get it to the point that it starts right up
